Well it was a bit of luck, a buddy of mine was in the yard Friday afternoon and the car was just placed on the yard that day.

It stormed all day Saturday so the chances was it wasn’t getting touched.
Yesterday, I hit the yard early with it misting rain and 38 degrees and got started on it before people started grabbing parts off it.

I have not looked into it yet but its clean, no major oil leaks that I could tell. Fingers crossed it is a late build 97 and it has the revised split thrust bearing. To be honest I am not concerned either way.

Now, I’m on the hunt for a suitable transmission…

I've just recently registered, but you and I are in the same boat. If you have not already, check out projectzerog.com, most of the RWD 4G guys can be found there and there is a 4G 240 build on the site as well. There is a ton of knowledge floating around, and even better yet, a guy that is making custom bell housings so that you can run a much stouter trans than the D50: T5, TKO T5, T56, R-154, etc.

Also, you'll find that the motor mounts out of a Mighty Max will work very well for this application. Good luck with your build, man!

I joined projectzerog.com awhile back and I spend a good time there reading.
I have turned my focus from the car to the engine for the time being. Tearing it down to inspect and prep for the machine shop. I’m going to have it hot tanked, inspected for cracks, and check the bores and mains.

I just about have the block ready to head out to the machine shop for a hot tank cleaning and inspection.

My hopes are that it's in good shape and just needs a fresh hone, rings, and bearings.

I already have a Mitsubishi timing set and balance shaft elimination kit for reassembly.

Been thinking about turbos and I think I am going to go with a holset hx35. I'm not sure what manifold I am going with yet. I really want to build a log manifold and place it where I want it.

I plan to use a EVO ecu using evo scan and tephramod.

I have about decided to delete the convertible top and frame. This will cut a good 200 pounds.

Right now I'm looking for a good price on a EVO 8-9 intake manifold.

Things are slow right now. Been doing a good bit of reading and planning.
I'm waiting to find a transmission that's in my budget so I can mock up the engine placement. I need to know how to work around or modify the cross member. I am also looking into fabricating a v-mount intercooler and radiator.

How are you going to mount the engine? 2G's have 3 trans mounts and one motor mount on the T-belt side. 6-bolt 1G's have 3 motor mounts and 1 trans mount. That's one of the reasons you never see a 2G motor in a 1G.

Thought about it?

I won't be using the existing mount.

To go rwd I will be using motor mounts from a mighty max truck. It's a bolt on part to the 4g63.

Right. But the 2G block has no provisions to bolt motor mounts to....at all.

So unless you plan on drilling into the block to tap holes you need a 6-bolt motor. The reason for this is because the 6-bolt motor has the provisions on the block to bolt motor mounts to.

Am I describing it clearly?

Hmmm interesting problem, if there are not provisions for engine mounts what about utilizing a mount mount plate like they tend to use on fox body mustangs to stablize the engine and solidify everything instead? Still not sure where you could mount various mounts but if you are removing the A/C, eliminating the need for the rear carrier baring for the driver side axle, and potentially eliminating the power steering there could be a pontential set of bolt holds that will stablize the engine enough to utilize successfully. As for the might max transmission you are going to use, does it have any mount locations other than the rear support?

There are plenty of places to mount the motor mount… Its not quite like the 6 bolt but its nothing that cant easily be fabricated.

I haven't got the mounts yet but I believe the mighty max mounts will bolt to the two holes vertically aligned with the 2 and 3 cylinders.

TSIflyer95 has a build on this site doing the same thing. He is further along than me but he is also using a 2g 7 bolt.

Awesome, looks like a viable solution using that mount plate. I just saw that as a sticking point on a 2G motor, looks like you're on the right track!

Grabbed a uncut engine harness at the salvage yard today.

Now it's time to chop it up and remove everything but the essential wires for the engine.

Good luck man. Since 04 ive owned about 10 240s 2 dailys over the years and winter beaters/parts cars etc. If i didnt get my g35 as a daily while i build the gvr4 i was going to get another s13. All you need is coilovers and Aziens RT615k's and it'll go in any direction you point that thing. Good luck with your build man. Ill be lurking!

Picked up a mighty max transmission. Now I'm looking for a blown block and head to work on engine placement while I build the actual engine.

I am also researching a small compound turbo setup that will allow a larger power band for a fun to drive street car.

The weather has been not so great lately so little has been done. I've removed the dash and working on removing the chassis harness at the moment.

Saving up money to get more parts that's necessary for the rwd conversion.

Are you planning to run any extra wiring in the harness for digital boost gauges, EGT, SD, etc for future expansion? I would recommend throwing a few extras in there before wiring it up so you can have a clean harness later on incase you add anything in the future. I hate having my add-ons. Running separate wires for all my stuff makes me cringe because they stand out so bad.

I was planning to have room for later expansion. I'm debating what engine management I'm going to use.

Also removing all unnecessary chassis wires and A/C wiring and ducts.

Your swap is looking good. I am doing the same swap, just a little bit farther than you are tho on the swap. You can check the details at: Project Zero G Forums ~ View topic - Project: 89 240sx Coupe w/ 4G63

Car info: 89 240sx coupe. 6-bolt 4G63. 14b (training wheels) for now. R154 Transmission. EVO 8 Intake Manifold. Solid 1 piece Driveline. fuel cell. etc

Right now maybe we can help eachother LOL. I am in the wiring phase right now as well. Pretty much got all my harness squared away in the engine bay. But now am looking at hooking up the alternator and starter. Also checking out the EVO TPS wiring w/ 1g harness, looks like its a direct swap.

So yeah in addition to that stuff I just need help with what wires on the 240sx side must be hooked up to get the car to start. I will need to get either new gauges or find out how to hookup all the signals to the nissans gauges if possible as well. took some time away from the car and I feel like Ive lost all my DSM knowledge LOL. Can you message me or we can just talk on your thread so more people can get into these swaps.

how much power can a mighty max tran hold?
I was going to say if your looking for a cheap tran that are found every were Toyota's w58's are a really good choice, still make them today and can be found in every manual celica and celica supra from 81-86.5 plus the n/t mk3 supra's had them and lots of Lexus models. they hold a good amount of power, couple guys in the mk2 supra forum are hitting 700 2jz hp at them and their holding fine.
