I have a 3D UI Android OS 3G WiFi 6.2" HD Head Unit DVB-T GPS Car DVD Player Bluetooth FM laying around from a durango i had scraped i was woundering if anyone has had any succuses in using one of these as a logger and maybe even running dsmlink I have done a search and returned nothing other than some dead threads with no solid answers just wounder if the processor and ui is fast enough to keep up or even compatible

I wish dsm link would make a android or iPad app I would love to rip out my dash instrument cluster. Wish I knew how to write code.

well if you where going to do all that work . you can run android tablet root it then run terminal eliminator
down load ubuntu on sd card the load rom in terminal and then have dsmlink running in Linux

This would probably be your best bet. Only problem is that it might be a pain in the ass to actually use link on such a small touch screen.

well the ubuntu phone is a great idea i would give it a few months as i have been a beta tester for ubuntu desktop for years and have contributed hours of time making it better there first release is never really stable and i think tuning on a tablet would be rough but a 4inch phone would near impossible

its not really about linux its about a integrated clean install of a multi task unit that would take care of music , gps "because i hat having a gps in the window" and tuning and logging its about a clean allinone unit that not only looks great functions well a mini mac is not going to go all that all tho if you just want data logging and tuning it would work great thats just not what i was looking for

Ultimate power? ;)

That little box looks great, too bad it's like $500.00

i have never heard of them but the specs look great its 565.93 shiped to us but for what you get a ebay unit is 350 with gps and dose not do half of what this one does

Why wouldnt it? Have you looked at the specs on those little guys? Some have 1tb hard drives. How much porn do you need to watch on the road LOL

Most have better specs then my current desktop and they would fit nicely right behind the display.

I don't think the problem is getting the dsmlink software to run, from the threads on the the ecmlink forum it seems like the bigger problem is getting the cable to work with tablets or other android devices.

i looked up mini mac and if they are the one's i saw they are more than able to do what we are talking about done fall with it is mini mac is $200 a 7" touch screen monitor $150 gps USB adapter $36 WiFi adapter $25 the mini mac has a 85 watt power supply and a monitor 125 watt so you need 400 watt 4000 watt peak power inverter cheap one is $ 66 and they drag this crap out of the alternate not to mention every time you shut down your car you have to shut down the mini mac and god for bid if you have a small battery in the car so for $477 you have a pc in your car that makes you slower anytime you turn it on is a pain to start up and shut down :notgood: thats why the indash that runs 12volts and starts up and shuts down automatically is a great option and its under stated when you look at it people just think another touch screen and keep walking

Dont most come standard with wifi and several usb's, what adapters do speak of?

There are countless write ups on doing exactly what we're talking about here.
FAQ: Installing a Mac Mini in Your Car

You can even run your car's factory speakers off the mini.

Here's a guide to installing the mini without an inverter.

Agreed. A Mac mini may have been revolutionary to the car world in 2002 but today it's just not cutting it. I, for one, would never ever want my desktop machine, no matter how small and heat-less I made it, in my car. Even with it's SSD, never.

Why exactly? He wants to use his dvd head unit to display like a laptop, which is not feasible. To me it doesnt make any sense to spend 700+ to do what $200 can do and do better.

you must be a mac lover... and missing the point completely

A mini mac will run link, real time loggers, run sat nav, built in wifi so you can surf the web, stream netflix, or upload logs straight to the forums, while running your cars factory speakers. I dont see how the op's idea or anything close, could be done better or cheaper.
