So after thinking about it for a few days i decided to bite the bullet and pick up a 2013 evo x. my dsm is a track only car at this point so the evo will be my take to hangout car till the warranty is up then modding will start. I have a 2-3 month wait to get it as it had to be ordered since there was none with the options i want in the northeast that fit my requirement of less than 10 miles on the clock.

yeah i swiped an mr from a person at my job and took it out to make sure i wanted the gsr instead of the mr. I couldnt stand the manumatic so the gsr got my vote

The MR is a manumatic now? WTF mits! Oh well does the gsr have less power options or lighter weight than te MR. I still want an 06 IX MR in gun metal. My other dream car aside of my dsm which will be a full track car in the future. Oh well, i can dream.
Congrats on the evo. I thought i read rumors somewhere that 2013
Was the last year they were making the evo, or if they do they were turning to a hybrid diesel :/

Curious, and this isn't an attack or coming with any post about how you shouldn't have, blah, blah, blah. I just want to know what you do for a living, because buying a new car seems so far out of reach anymore.

Even with a down payment they cost about 35k. With 10k down thats still 25k financed...I guess we need guys like you though who buy them for retail, baby them and treat them nice so in 10 years we can pick them up for a fraction of the cost, and you can buy another fancy car at full price.

It's called putting a down payment and paying it off monthly.

I work for a car dealership. I know exactly what it's called wise ass. It's still like a 400.00 to 500.00 monthly note not including insurance.

i make like 40k per year. im only putting 2k down but with my credit im paying 2.9 percent if i take a 5yr loan. my payments would be like 625 per month. I am thinking about doing the 36mo 0% interest but the payments are like 1135 then. still doable but no wiggle room if other bills come up.

2013 is the last year of the evo x but the 11 is rumored to be a hybrid or turbo diesel with new styling. There have been no leaked photos or specs for it so i think ill pick up a 10 before they are sold out for the year.

since im a mitsu fanboy and they are killing the brand by going electric and hybrid this will most likely be the last mitsu i ever buy, after owning about 8-10 mitsus in the last 16 years I felt it was time to pick one up the way i wanted it and baby it and keep it nice and safe in the garage

I couldn't swing that note and make 45K. Want to trade life situations?

i make 50k a year but with a wife and 2 kids, i can only afford to dump 200-300 bucks a month into my dsm. You are paying almost 700 for a car, and then tack on insurance which will prlly be at least 200, then gas...damn man 1k a MONTH for a car? That your going to BABY? If i could dump 1k a month into a hobby i would have a drift car already, way more fun then babying and dailying an evo x, imo. HELL YOU COULD AFFORD A MK4 SUPRA IF YOU SAVED FOR A LITTLE WHILE.

Its cool, in 15 years when your evo 10 is still in pristine condition and you are gonna sell it for 8k i might pick it up for my daughter. :)

I wouldn't want to...

If i cant buy it cash i cant afford it. Bought my house cash, paid off, bought 5 months ago. Both my cars are owned. No bills for me, #### payments.

Bingo

LOL why i wouldnt sell it. i never look at cars as an investment just a hobby. I own my own house and have several other hobbies. Its not about how much you make its about prioritizing and budgeting. I have zero monthly bills. even if i do a 5 year loan i will still have it paid off in 3 at the most.

Im married with two kids and have never had an issue with affording my hobbies. I spend about 10-15k a year on my hobbies so the payments for the evo really arent that bad. my wifes jeep grand Cherokee was more expensive.

:barf: why would i want one. they do nothing for me. I would rather buy a gtr vs a ragged out supra that has had more peoples hands thru it.

and i almost bought a 9 since they are like 18-23k but everyone i looked at were kid owned and beat.

It's his money guys, he can spend it as he sees fit.

I just am always curious how some people afford these things, as I wonder why sometimes I feel like my money goes shorter distances than others.

I highly doubt you wont want to sell your "old evo x" in 15 years im sure people who bought Eclipse GSX's in 1989 and 90 who were on the cutting edge of technology swore up and down they too would never sell them. As far as the Supra goes, you can get them for about 25k and if it was me id do a complete overhaul and go single turbo.

But one last thing, evolutionm has a bunch of CLEAN evo 9's for sale pretty consistently, i have to limit my time surfing thier classifieds because i start thinking about selling my kids so i could buy a 9.

Thats crazy. I make 70k/yr and I can afford it but I absolutely HATE! financing my titan. Still have $23k left on it, $412/month @ 10% interest over 6 years (Purchased Used). I used to own a 2003 BMW M3 (back in 2007) that I financed for 40,000 @ 8% interest over 5 years, the payment was $811/month.

Paying for these cars (at separate times) while only having to provide for myself was easy, but when you start talking about modding a car and paying a car note of $500-$800/month, that's where i find it difficult to do, even while making >$70k/yr, let alone $40 or $50k.

Addition:

I do understand that it is his money, he doesn't have to disclose anything if he doesn't want to, but as it is in (at least for me it is) human nature to be curious as to how things work, this is simply my way of being curious.

By my calculations, if you made 40k/yr that would leave you with $3076/month (pre-tax), $300/tax per check (pretty modest and doesnt include any health plans or 401k deductions you may have) would make your take home pay at around $2476/month.

Assuming that you purchased the car, and made payments of $625/mo (from your last post), you would have $1851 left for the entire month. Lets not stop there, $1851 looks like a lot but can be very deceiving.

Insurance, lets lowball it at a monthly price of $60 for full coverage. now you're just below $1800.

You may or may not have extremely fortunate living arrangements, allowing you to live rent free or own your home outright, so lets not include that.

Food: $200/month (Conservative)
Gas: $102/month (Also extremely conservative. This was calculated by assuming gas was $3.50/gal, Tank size of 14.5g, and that you only fill up the tank 2 times a month)
Cell Phone: $50 (Also extremely conservative)

Cash: $1438

Things im leaving out, because i have no idea if you are required to pay for these expenses:
Rent/Mortgage
Electric Bill
Gas Bill
Cable Bill

If you do happen to pay the above bills, there is no way that I could possibly see your situation being comfortable, unless you have a SO that pays half of the bills.

Hell, i am able to pay ALL of my bills with less than one of my checks, the other check is all disposable income, and i still don't feel comfortable with my situation, but that's probably because I've been spending about $1500-2k a month for the last 2 months on my 1g :hellyeah: probably why i feel so broke.

I do own my house out right no mortgage left. Other than property and school taxes and food and utilities i have no bills. The wife does make $$ also so that helps. I dont plan on modding this as i will prob track the car at watkins glen and lime rock with my car club in stock form to be more competitive with out bumping up classes. If i want to mod it though i would wait till the warranty is up before i did anything major

Financing my Evo was one of the worst financial decisions I ever made. I absolutely hated paying $500+ per mo. It was fine with 2 salaries and no kid, but now with one salary (even though its about the same as our two when i first had the evo) and a daughter, I could never see myself making such a large monthly car payment again. Too many wiser things to do with my money, pay off student loans and mortgage (I know op said he doesn't have any), save for kids college, save for retirement, etc...

Anyways, it's your money, I just know how I feel after having had such a large car note, maybe I'd feel different without any of the bills you don't have, but I think I'd still prioritize saving for the future and my daughters schooling over a toy (not saying you're not)

Good luck with the car though, I've had my Evo 6 years and 100k miles an still love it, and its still completely stock
