My prices are lower than South Bend Clutch website, and I cover the ~$35-50 in shipping.

I cannot see how my prices are really high for a performance clutch. I sell products that START with a 450TQ capacity and go up from there. That's a 125% capacity over stock. The SS/TZ kit is a 2200# pressure plate.

If you want something cheaper, and you are relatively stock, then purchase a Stage #1 with a stock disk. The K05048-HD is rated for 300TQ at the crank. That's a 50% capacity over stock. The HD kit is a 1900# pressure plate and stock-style clutch disk.

Completely different animals.

If you are broke and cannot afford a stock-level clutch for $175 + shipping from SBC, then go to Autozone and purchase a Duralast clutch NU31188 for $90.00.

Well im expecting to pay somwhere around 175-200, and im prepared to do that, it currently has a centerforce stage II clutch in it, not sure of exact part numbers as im not the onewho installed it. with that said what would be my best option here for price? im not looking for it to be ripping down the drag strip, and im more interested in something dependable right now....just not sure of my next steps, sorru i didnt mean to sound rude even though it came off like that

Thanks for the reply

^ you might as well of not posted anything at all, thanks...any other useful replys?

If it helps....

I bought the SouthBend SS/TZ kit from Tim Zimmer last year, and I can tell it worth every dollar I payed for it!

Best clutch kit I have tried so far (the other ones I've tried were Daikin and ACT)... It holds hard and pedal feel almost as the stock one!

Based on how big of a pita it is to install a clutch on a 2g I say just get one that you will be happy with. As far as drivetrain goes I dont like to skimp out. Just get a new clutch for your application and be done with it. I have family that lives in bay city btw. And if want a better price on a aftermarket clutch send me a pm and ill check prices as I have numerous wholesale accounts and I am able to get stuff at cost.

I also got a SB clutch (SS/TZ) from Mr. Tim Zimmer. That was probably a year and a half ago and about 12,000 miles. The clutch is still awesome on a mildly modded car (small 16g @ 15psi + supporting mods).
The only thing I didn't use was the aftermarket TOB that came with the kit. I got an OEM one instead.

The clutch was well worth the money and I'll buy another SB when the time comes.

If you're going to buy south bend, contact Tim Zimmer.

Agreed

Definitely agree. I have the SS/TZ myself and I love it. Feels only a little stiffer than stock and it holds great.

Completely worth the money. After having 2 ACT pressure plate fail on me and going to the SS/TZ I'll never go back to ACT.

I had a Southbend disk with a warped ACT 2600 plate. Was able to cut 1.68 60ft on a warped plate, the Kevlar disks are awesome. Only 1/4 of the contact area was making contact!!!! Also Tim is the man when it comes to drivetrain related anything. Pretty stoked he is dealing with autos now as well!

If you're tight on money just get a shitty parts store clutch until you can afford something different.

If you want something good, pony up and get a southbend.

OR get a south bend, and do it yourself and save yourself the labor cost. You are, after all, unemployed. So you should have the time ;)

okay, i understand act and southbend are all better than oem, i also understand duralast is crap in comparison, i also understand tmz has good prices and he sells southbend clutches but let me re-say my question

Centerforce stage II clutch currently installed

only certain pressure plates are compatible with certain disks<----right?

without knowing exact part numbers to whats in the vehicle right now, is it possible to know what disk i could buy that would work?

and worst case scenario does anyone know of a site that sells just centerforce disks and not kits?

Re-use your pressure plate and slap an ebay XTD sprung 6 puck in it for 75 bucks and call it a day. The XTD discs are great, its their pressure plates that suck.

If all you want is something stock like, then I'm sure XTD has an organic disc that is probably even less then the 6 puck.

My centerforce clutch kit came with an exedy disk. But without have the disk in hand you likely wont know

If I ever drive my car enough to wear out my ACT 2600 I will be replacing it with a Southbend unit.

Seeing the stories about acts pressure plate and how it reacts to 7 bolts, im steering towards a south bend stage 3 due to its tq limit. Just my opinion, once I get it installed ill let you know more.

i caved, bought an ss/tz combo from tmz, at least ill know it wont be going out anytime soon

I really wouldn't come here talking sh1t. We see a hundred guys a day that come in here and cheap/ebay out these cars so ill say this one more time so there isn't my confusion, you get what you pay for. This advice that you mock is some of the best advice you can get.

If you think it's cheaper to put 2 175$ clutches in vs 1 400$ one, then by all means. Just don't ask for advice.

As for you're final decision, excellent choice man and it'll save you money in the end trust me.

as the topic says southbend clutch, even if a stage one, you cant begin to tell me they are not of some value, i didnt ask for a quote on how to manage every financial decision in my life, i was asking if there was a way to just put a disk in and get away cheaper seeing i allrdy have a aftermarket pressure plate, but thank you for the advice

If I when i wear out my ACT 2600 after kicking it's ass down the strip I will be replacing it with a Southbend unit.
^this, and i fixed it ;)

I went from an act solid 6 puck to a sprung 6 puck and reused my pressure plate and flywheel with now 9700 miles on it and i haven't had problems yet, but i think I'll hit up tim for something good for 650tq that isn't a twin disk in the near future and I'm planning in south bend pp flywheel and sprung 6 puck also. I'm shootin for 9s

Good. Now make sure you have your flywheel stepped properly before you install it. Or you'll have engagement problem, which will require you to do it all over again.

0.612" step height all the way across the friction surface. <--I thank Tim Z. for drilling that info into my head.:tease:
