i have been wondering how well my auto trans would react if i was to put the new dexron vi in it. it is backwards compatible and is an upgrade over previous auto trans fluids. and it is even compatible in the CVT trans and many manual trans. had anyone used this in their dsm auto?

Dextron 6 is recommended where Dextron 3 or higher was factory fill required.

It would work in the few gm trans which required atf for manuals instead of normal gear lube.

I know you can run dex3 with a bottle of black lubeguard in our auto transmissions, however I do not know if you can do dex6 w/ the lub guard. Obviously you can't use it in our manuals, as they require actual gear oil.

Normal atf has so many detergents in it, i doubt you'd see any issues arise when switching to synthetic dex6. Not like motors where synthetic cleans out deposits and makes issues. I ran it in my car once on accident, and I noticed nothing abnormal, it is a little bit... grabbier, but I imagine no issues would have came up. I then put dex3 and the lube guard back in and ran with that.

thats what i was hoping for

i heard that adding synthetic trans fluid to non-synthetic will also "gel-up" has anyone heard that?

no auto wiseman to chime in?

i still have about 6 gallons of this stuff i have bee reluctant to run in my auto trans. i was hoping steve would comment

Is this stuff actually compatible with our transmissions (I'm going to guess NO)? Dexron 3 is not and you're supposed to use atf+4. Nothing will get me away from type F.

I can tell you how it behaved personally in my Escort GT with a manual transmission (although of little use more than likely).

I decided to swap my 5th gear in the Escort in an effort to get better gas mileage. I figured that D6 would be more slippery so I put it in at the same time.

So far so good. If you were closer, I'd give you what I had left since the next time I open the tranny there will probably be something more slippery out.
