So over the holiday I took my car on a longer then usual trip I was having temperatures spiking around 220 going around 50mph. As soon as I'd leave off the throttle it would drop down to 195 or so. As soon as I get back into the gas though the temperatures rise. Also, the heat is blistering hot. It has av new water pump and thermostat. Perhaps I didn't bleed the system enough? Any input is appreciated. :)

Edit: No aftermarket really... Just smic hard pipes and hard intake.

There is a very easy way to check for a bad thermostat. Let the car warm up and feel the lower radiator hose. If its cold, the thermostat is stuck shut. It's that simple.

None of you actually read his post, did you?

I am having the same problem with my dsm. Changed the thermostat water pump is new but my fans never kick on its over heating at an idle. Any ideas

No, I read that and your response was spot-on. No added info necessary.

Just trying to clear up the 1 million "thermostat" replies to every overheating thread.

yeah, no problem there, just also the two before you I was referring to.

Try to run the car without the thermostat, so all the water will flow on entire cooling system. I am running mine without thermostat with no issue of overheating and if you have the FMIC you must have a good air duct flowing on your radiatior, i install aftermarket slim fan in front of my radiator between my FMIC and my overheating issue was solved.:hellyeah:

1 confirm that your fan works
2 check that it has the right coolant level and
water to antifreeze ratio
3 thermostate
Has the car had any type of addives like stop leak or head gasket repair?

Hmmm I haven't been seeing status updates through my link on here. Any who, its been doing around 210 city and 220 highway. Guess I'm not super concerned about it. What's odd though that when I park it, its normally at 209, then it will creep up to 216 even with the fans on. If I give it a quick 2k rev, drops down to 206. What would this indicate? Water pump not moving enough coolant?

Problem solved. Junk Stant thermostat was just that, junk. Went to Napa and bought and OE Exact, which I might add looked identical to the OEM unit minus one coil on the spring, and temps are a steady 195 now. Goes to show, at minimum, to buy an OE equivalent thermostat.
