To the engineers who placed the fuel filter in its location, go #### your selves!!! :notgood:

Line wrenches make life so much better. Best $20 I ever spent at the good ole' harbor freight.

Luckily I had everything out. Currently looking for a short somewhere.
But I just had no leverage to break it loose in the "in" side.

Did you use a wrench to hold the filter from turning and a wrench on the fitting. If you put them on there right than you can just squeeze them together with your hands.

taking the battery tray out and battery tray holder/EVAP canister makes the job much much easier/manageable.

Oh yup, that's what I did. Just didn't want to break looses.

what i do is hold the filter with a wrench and use an impact gun to break the line lose . then when i put it back together i use wrenhes .

I'm using a 14mm fuel wrench with a 19mm wrench to hold the filter in place, and I still cant get it to bite. It seems like the 14mm is slipping off. I've been PB'ing it all day, and still no luck. I believe that this is causing my horrible gas mileage, and it's really getting to me right now. Any tips?

I've been using this link as well

And to make matters worse, I dropped the banjo bolt, and heard like metal contact, but it's not on the ground...

They aren't that bad if you remove the battery and use the right wrenches.

For everyone who comes across this in their search. Go out and buy the F*nking wrenches for the job. Don't do what I did and go through what I did... it isn't worth it. Do it once. Do it right.

Yea it's annoying
I used vice grips and a rachet head wrench to get some leverage to break the bolts loose
But made a difference when I drove it around

Well thankfully I found the top banjo bolt. I'm just having no luck with the bottom. I've hit it with PB all day long and it seems like the 14mm flare is just rounding over. Anyone else have some tips? Does the vice grips apply for the top or bottom? And which one are you guys taking off first (top/bottom)

Go buy a good pair of vice grips, lock them on the fitting and remove. It is unlikely that the fuel filter is causing you to get bad mileage though.

It's the only thing left I can think of because literally all my other maintenance is up to date. Unless its my rough tune using the Evo ECU but my fuel trims are good, and my wideband is reading 14.7 at idle and doesn't go past 11.5 at WOT. I just started working on cars, so maybe it isn't like you stated. All I know is I want this stupid fitting at the bottom of the fuel filter to come off LOL.

@Bud92gsx- I'd ask you, but it wasn't a triple dog dare LOL

Anyways, I mixed a couple gallons of E-85 in with 93 octane a few times so that's why I'm thinking maybe my fuel filter as well because of the infamous "E-85 goo" Again I could be totally wrong as I am just learning but it's the only other maintenance thing I haven't taken care of.

I clamped the vice grips to the bottom getting leverage from the firewall

@White_knight- Thanks for the advice/tip! I guess I'll have to try messing with it again on another day. I wonder if a P.O. rounded off the flare nut on the bottom because my 14mm flare wrench just kept slipping off. At least it wasn't all for nothing because I deleted the charcoal canister.

No problem
It makes loosening a bit easier although the vice grips might slip a bit but ull find a way to make em stay still
Easy: I used a bit of wd-40
Just make sure u don't pull too much on the hard gas lines
Easiest: have a friend hold the bottom

I used a quite a bit of WD-40/PB over the night. I am hoping if I keep hitting it daily with that combo that by the time I get a free moment it will come off. I tried have a friend hold it in place, and I've been doing the squeezing them together method too but the 14mm keeps slipping and I am worried that I'm rounding over the threads.

The vice grips will get it off (hold the fuel line in place so it won't break as well as the 19mm nut) but beware that nut is very soft and vice grips have a tendency to crush and/or completely round soft nuts.
