Alright, kinda feel like a noob asking but, i have a stock 96 gs n/t and i usually shift around 3-4k rpms depending on how im driving, thing is... I do occasionally like my spirited driving but this is the first manual car that ive owned so i dont know how far i can push it without blowing anything up. Just some basic numbers would be cool.

Also... The engine was rebuilt about 22k miles ago by the PO but it has over 204k on the body so im not planning on going more than maybe 70 until ive redone my suspension

I remember I have my good ole 420a hell. Completely stock minus bolt ons around 130k on it, never really had any problems neither did the guy I sold it to. Then I got my gst and realized the n/a was balls slow LOL. Still miss her though we had some fun.

if your taking her out for a cruise, id spin it up to 5000-5,500 or higher without thinking twice. its sustained high rpm, for explain, not shifting that would do harm.

remember, a car was meant to be driven. enjoy it!

i shift 2.5 ish for normal driving. shift a little later if you need to accelerate faster.
if you are trying to go as fast as possible, shift at
1st: 6,500
2nd: 7,000
3rd: 6,500
4th: 6,000

due to the power band of the 420a, the most power is between 3.8-6k RPMS
3rd gear is the longest gear, so you shift later in 2nd to stay in the power band.

Sweet guys. Thanks for all the responses! My fiance hates when i get it past 4k rpms because the muffler is raspy as hell (its stock i think) but, after a few different problems with a seller i have a cat back on its way that should help a little. On a side not... My car now has both side mirrors. Go me...
