Ok. This isn't the normal "My CC won't work" thread.

1. I have a 1990 model.
2. When I bought it the CC was "deleted"
3. I drive over 6 hours a lot of days and that SUCKS.
4. A 90 model CC module is damn near impossible to find.
5. The ones I did find I couldn't afford.

So now the fun part.

I found a 91+ model and did a ton of work to it to make it work. I fabricated longer wires with two plugs to go from 90 location to firewall location. I drilled a hole in the firewall and mounted it. I ran everything and removed the non cruise cable I did have.

Well of course after all that work, it doesn't work.

1. The orange light on the stalk on the column does come on.
2. When I set the CC the cruise light comes on on the dash.
3. It doesn't work.

I just recently read that the 90 model is a mechanical style while the 91+ is an electric style.

Is there ANY WAY to make this one work or am I screwed?

PS. Will trade a non cruise cable (90-99) for a 90 cruise control assembly.

EDIT: The cruise control brain box above the fuse box was bad. Replaced it and good to go!

I'd assume you were the one who had this posted on the DSM facebook group, but my buddy still has his 90 unit he'd be willing to trade. Let me know.

that would be me. Yea I got in touch with him but he has yet to send me pics of the 90 unit. Too many people think that the 91+ model will work.

Now I know first hand that they won't.

You need the mechanical module - the one that the module is attached to the passenger strut tower. Throttle cable ran into the module across the front of the motor and the return cable follows in reverse back to the throttle plate connector.

Best if you can hit a yard to find all of this. Plus, CC cables are no longer in existance at the Mitsu dealership - totally discontinued.

Half of it works since you get the green "CRUISE" light to come on located in the lower left of the cluster - meaning that the disconnect switches behind the clutch and brake are functioning normally.

Good luck with the correct find. - DSM

I appreciate the offer but I ended up getting one.

So I have it all installed, but guess what. The exact same symptom.

Before I thought maybe it was because of the difference between the two. But now, I'm not so sure.

1. Orange light on stalk will come on.
2. When setting the cruise, the "CRUISE" green light on the cluster will come on.
3. The car will not maintain speed.

I have ECMLink3. Is there possibly a feature in there that will disable the cruise in some form?

how in the hell do I remove link? Isn't that programmed hard into my ECU and plus I can't drive my car without it as my injectors and everything else is needed to run properly.

Another thing that has not yet been mentioned is it is possible that your speed sensor is not working. 1G has a cable from the tranny to the cluster, so the cable will spin up the speedo just fine regardless of whether or not the speed sensor itself is working BUT, the cable also spins a reed switch within the speedo to give the ECU the speed signal so that:
1. The ECU can use cruise control to maintain your speed

2. The idle will stay at around 1000rpms when the car is moving and the clutch is pushed in, in order to aid in preventing the engine from stalling.

You have ecmlink. Run a scan to see if youve got any error codes in the ecu; it will throw a code for a nonresponsive speed sensor, Ive had it happen myself in my 90. If there is no code, and youve got the clutch pedal setup to use launch control, turn it on and set the stutter box to whatever rpm you like (5500 is common) and go for a drive. If the car will not rev past 5500 rpms when youre moving, your speed sensor is most definitely screwed since the ecu checks the speed sensor to see if the car is stopped before allowing the stutter box to be used and thinks the car is stopped because its getting no signal from the speed sensor. If this is the case, replace the gauge cluster.

And you can get gauge clusters out at the yards for cheap, but you have to find the one that the speedo reads in 5-15-25, etc. as the 1990 one does, for 1991, the speedo gauge went to 10-20-30, etc. and their internals might be a bit different.

Bottom line: whatever your "MD" number is for the gauge cluster is, match the replacement up with it.

I appreciate the reply. link shows no codes and I do have the proper cluster. It's absolutely required for a 90 to have the proper cluster or else the tach flat out won't work.

I'm had another idea and started research. It could be the cruise control brain box. Apparently the turbo models never had the "relay" but instead a large "brain box" underneath the dash. Going to see if I still have it at all.

Boom! Thanks to Miller Import Parts I got another brain box.

Took me a lot of cursing about about 30 minutes but got it swapped out and HOT DAMN I HAVE CRUISE CONTROL!

I opened my other one and I saw no obvious failures. Whatever. My cruise works now and my left foot is happy.

how did you get to the "brain box"? do you have to take out the junction block? because i have a very similar issue
