I used to live in Naperville and commute downtown for a paid (shit) intern position with a Venture Capital firm. How the hell do you commute from rockford to downtown? If work starts at 8am you would have to leave by no later than 5am. Even at that time, you might still be late once you hit traffic.

After getting an offer at a company in Jacksonville Beach,FL, i moved down and now i literally can walk to work, its half a block from my condominium complex.

I live in rochelle IL, its about a 1 hour 10 min commute. I get paid real good. so

Still far as shit, From Naperville it takes only 40 minutes to get to the city (starting 3-4 miles from the highways) during non traffic hours; during traffic hours, that same commute can easily turn into a 1:30 - 2 hour commute.

A well paid intern? Congratulations on being the 1% of well paid interns. As an intern for the VC firm I only made $17/hr, it still wasn't enough to justify the commute, pay for groceries, and a place to live.

Lol that's partly the reason i moved to Jacksonville, they made me an extremely sweet deal and paid for my move down. Now it only take no more than 5 minutes to get to work.

32 miles each way here, usually takes about 35 minutes

I use to drive 1.5 hrs one way, good chance to catch up on audio books. 40$ an hour helped too....

I'm only about 13 miles away, not very far. The gas prices were still killing me though, "Ford Ranger 11MPG" so I bought a mini cooper just to drive to work and back. It gets a solid 37mpg...

I would get WAY to many speeding tickets if my commute involved that much distance. Especially if it was freeway driving. When I bought my house, I made sure my new job was within 15-25 minutes commute time.

I used to get pulled over almost every month or two when I had to use the 60 (freeway) on the way to work and back. I didn't drive wrecklessly but they sit on the ramps and pull you over from behind in the 70-75mph range. Which I think is ridiculous considering I get constantly passed on the freeway doing 75-80 around here...

I think Phoenix's freeway system is advanced enough to have autobahn style speed regulations (or lack thereof LOL). Not only because I would like to drive super fast but we have people that want to drive 50-60mph mixed with people that want to drive 80-95mph on the same road system and I think it would be safer to just designate which lanes the faster/slower traffic needed to be in. IMO.

What kind of work are you coming from where $17/hour is "shit"? I've never seen over $11/hour.
