To start off my car is a 98 gsx with a rebuilt motor 8 thousand miles ago, 130k on the body. The car is in pretty good condition, its suppose to have forged internals I guess I can't know for sure, injen intake, big 16g turbo, HKS blow off, 3'' inch catback straight pipe, and some other stuff that doesnt affect the egnine. My main hobby is motorcycles but couldn't pass up this car.. wondering where to go next? Could use some opinions. I'm not looking to put more that 2 more grand into this car

You aren't going to be able to make 350hp and maintain it reliably for $2k.

That's definitely doable LOL. Pick up a way to tune (used dsmlink), wbo2, a quality fmic, a Wally 255, and some 650cc injectors.

That will get you a long way.

So the next steps would be injectors, fuel pump, dsmlink, I would suggest 3 gauges (wideband o2, oil pressure and boost), intercooler with piping and then ofcourse a tune. This is ofcourse if you have checked/done all the maintenance for the car.

Sorry forgot to add that, It does have an intercooler, and the guy gave me 750cc injectors and a wally fuel pump. Is the ecmlink the best way to tune? From what I've seen it won't be cheap

If your looking for a cheap way to tune while trying to make power your in the wrong game man. Those 750s will be fine for your power goals, your saving some with those and the pump already. Pick up a decent fmic, link, wideband, some gauges to monitor boost, oil and your wb and you'll be good to go. Unless you plan on spending way more to have someone else tune, dsm link is great for tuning yourself and there's tutorials on their website.

The sad part is I had a ecmlink and sold it thinking I wasn't gonna do anything to the car, then changed my mind :( guess i'll go ahead and buy another one. :ohdamn:

Ecmlink v3, wideband, boost controller, boost and oil psi gauges. Also if you have a 255 pump you ma need a fuel pressure regulator. The 255 hp will overrun your stock regulator and your fuel pressure can bounce around making tuning a headache!

Link is a must don't mess around and get a afc or something cheap like that its just problems down the road

Get the link back. Quick and easy to make whatever changes you want further down the road. You could also swap in an E3 16g or 20g later on pretty easily, but link would without a doubt be the best thing to do first aside from maintenance. You could spend alot on a motor and loose it all with a broke timing belt. If it breaks, your screwed. You won't "get lucky" with this motor breaking a timing belt.

Just got my AEM wideband ordered. After my bike sells on the 15th im gonna order a AEM tru boost controller and a ECM link. Anything else?

Why the AEM boost controller? If you are getting ECMLink V3, just pick up the IR solenoid and use it to control the boost.

Also, you may want to look into other options for the WB. ;)

dsm link v3 is awesome from my exp with it. super easy to tune and runs great.
like stated above make sure you have all supporting fuel mods and wideban for sure afr's are a big deal. you can reach 350 np with your current set up :)

sidenote.... dont ever side step the clutch..

Like I've been told numerous of times, LINK LINK LINK! LOL but yes 300-350 should be obtainable with a budget of $2,000 maybe with your current turbo if you really want to budget hopefully it's not ebay LOL. 1. Wideband 2. Boost Gauge 3. Link 4. FMIC 5. Wally 255 6. 680cc Injectors. 7. FPR 8. Clutch LOL
HP Goal – Min Injector Size (cc/min)*
250hp-....... 550cc
300hp-....... 650cc
350hp-....... 750cc
400hp-....... 850cc
450hp-....... 950cc
500hp-....... 1050cc

Since you have a 98 you probably have the plastic box ecu. Go pick up a tactrix 2.0 cable, boost gauge, and innovate wideband and call it a day.

I'm ordering the link soon, Wideband is on the way, got 750cc injectors, got the wally 255, and still undecided on the boost gauge so many options

Better off doing what gieri002 suggested. If you have a flash-able ecu, might as well use it and save some money. You can use that money toward a tactrix cable and pick up a boost gauge.

Is that as user friendly as the link?

Budget has changed! Looking at spending more than that 2k now.. sold my ninja and putting it into the car! trying to get an idea of how much it would cost to go forged internals

Forged rods and pistons aren't at all necessary for your goals, and won't fit into a $2k build budget. Your looking at about $1K for decent rods/pistons alone. With machining costs, parts needed for assembly, and other "while it's apart" stuff, you could easily rack up $2k+ rebuilding your engine. I certainly did...

Stock internals are good for 500hp all day long! As long as they are on a good tune. In order this is where your money should go. Maintanance, Link (for your goals you would save a few hundred bucks by just getting V2 from the classifieds or V3 lite) a Good boost contoller. Before you even think about running the car with other upgrades you need to monitor and tune what is going on. Otherwise a rebuild willl go from being a "want" to a "need". And as for one of the posts that said get an oil pressure gauge. Thats a waist of money. One of the best factory parts of these cars is the oil pressure gauges.
