I have a 96 GS and i live in Wisconsin. i see that when i look at new batteries they seem to max out at about 550CCA. Is there a compatible battery that will fit in the allotted slot that has a higher CCA. Id like to get a 750CCA+ battery. Or do you think the 550cca is alright.

you can shop around for batteries that have the same casing as yours with a higher CCA rating yes optima is best if you plan on running a few accessories or large sound systems. You can also swap out your battery tray to a larger one if you want to use a regular larger battery with higher CCA.

My big thing is i don't really wanna spend $200 on a new battery. I know the optima batteries have a higher CCA but they are expensive. To the guy who said find one that has a casing thats the same size, thats what i was curious about. If anyone had done that before, find one thats the same size. I know Sears have a cheap battery "plus start" and they are like 55$. But they only have a 525CCA. So i guess in closing, Was wondering if another battery would slide right in the slot. Save me the trouble of searching for one. :sneaky:

I have had bad experiences with optimas. either that or I dont know how to revive them. Ive had at least 5 different specimens from the yellow top line.

For "cheap" I would recommend any gold series battery from vatozone or advanced auto farts. they are really not that bad.

fwiw, the 34 group size is really close to an 86 (86 is oem size) and should fit easily. The advantage is they are rated for more CCA typically (86 golds are around 650 CCA)

I shat out another gold, due to a resistive rear relocation. I took the opportunity to do a warranty upgrade to the Platinum series at autozone. They are the AGM (absorbed glass mat) This gives the battery 750 CCA, and a more durable AGM qualities.

Steer clear of optima. Oddessey I have read to be good and another brand I cannot find off the top of my head.

Cool. The car is sitting right now anyways so i have some time to research it. If i find one that is compatible in size with more CCA's i'll be sure and let the rest of us know what my findings are. :thumb:

Having owned 5 optimas in 3 different vehicles, I can say I have NEVER had a bad experience with their redtops.
I can't attest to the yellowtops.

As for price, you can buy the Redtops on Amazon from $144 with free shipping. I know my local auto stores sell the exact same one (8025) for $200. Take that info as you will, but I buy nearly everything off Amazon. That and 2-day shipping rocks.

I work for autozone so when I go back Ill see what our highest CCA battery is that will fit and let you know. (unless yourk like me and relocated the battery to the trunk with a huge battery box and the biggest battery i could find 800CCA my car hasnt failed on a cold winter yet!)
