Please don't link me to the holset pages. I'm strictly wanting to hear from people who have experience running BOTH 7 and 8 blade hx35s in the BEP .55 bolt on housing.

What were you flowing with each turbo at the same amount of boost?

I never had a log to see how much I was flowing, but on a 8 blade hx35 I ran a 12.1@119 with a pretty wore out motor. Turbo spooled great and top end was awesome. Although I wish I would have waited and found the 7 blade!

Thats not really fair to say "just get the 7 blade" when we dont know his current goals. On pump gas and running the bep .55 housing, the 8 blade may be a better choice.

I already have an 8 blade ATM got it with a bunch of other shit I needed for a price I couldn't resist... I'm looking for a 7 blade locally. The 8 blade just seems like the less impressive brother... Nobody likes the less impressive brother. Plus, I've hardly seen anyone running 11's with an 8 blade, but that could also be because not a lot of people push it as far as the 7 in the .55 housing.

I'd buy a 7 blade from the classifieds here, but the shipping kills me ad I'm trying to get one for around $200.

Well I already know the 7 blade would be better for me. I'm shooting for 500whp this year on 94 w/ meth 25-30 psi

Just that part of me knows I won't touch that with the 8 blade that I have right now and I'm hoping for somebody to say something like "I'm making 500 on an 8 blade" or "they flow the same in the Bolt in housing" LOL I'll just keep looking for a 7 blade locally...

I've had a wh1c and a hy35 both in stock holset housings.... difference is negligeable. Get what you can get, cheaply. i dont know that i believe in the restrictive bep housing jazz either. i made 650whp in a tiny 9cm housing with a baby turbine. Worrying about back pressure is overrated.

Well that just makes the 7 blade sound more desirable.. Brb flowing 60lbs/min in a bep.

Thanks for all the input guys, I'll keep looking for a 7 blade. Unless someone wants to sell me one with free shipping :D

My 8 blade in a bolt on housing was flowing 51-52lbs min at 30-31psi.

EDIT: Sorry looked at the wrong log!

The 7 blade has proven to be the most power at the quickest spool, its also flows as much as the 6 and spools like the 8. Im running an hx40 and i had to pick between the same options. 7 blade is the happy medium= better.

The 8 blade works at lower boost 6 blade works better at higher boost, 7 blade happy medium, do u guys not even read the holset threads??

^ I don't think it's accurate to lump the HX40 and HX35 together here. The HX40 has different compressor configurations like the 6-blade which not only has less blades, but also has a larger inducer. The 40 also has a larger turbine so it requires a larger housing, so the HX35 .55 housing isn't the same as the HX40 .55 housing. Which means results for one don't equal results for the other.

Now, from the Holset thread:

The 7blade hx35...compressor flows 60lb/min according to the compressor map and logged results from a member here. The bolton BEP housing with the hx35 turbine wheel do not SEAM to have enough flow to really reach the potential of 60lb/min.

From what I've seen other members say, this rings true.

Shit guys sorry, I looked at the wrong data log last night when I posted (it was the hx40 data log at low boost), I just double checked and found the correct data log, i was hitting 51-52lbs/min just like somebody said. I loved my 8blade! It going on my galant now LOL.

All the research and reading I have done as well as an email from justin saying the 7 blade hx35 flows more at higher boost levels. Not saying its more "efficient" but makes more power!

Yeah, what research? There isn't any. I don't know of anyone that has maxed out a 7blade and then swapped it for a 8 blade. Anything anyone says is pure speculation. We don't even know how accurate the compressor maps are, so who knows what they flow.

The 7blade is a 54mm x 78mm wheel, and the 8 blade is a 56mmx83mm wheel. That extra 2mm of inducer sure is a whole lot more area than 1 blade takes up.

I've ran both the wh1c in a 12cm housing open t3 and twin scroll and hy35 in the open t3 9cm housing. All three combinations netted similar trap speeds at similar boosts. The t/s t3 Wh1c, spooled a bit faster than the hy35.

Put the 8 blade on, and be done with it. Your not going to go fast sitting around looking for a turbo.

IMHO, if you wanted more, a better upgrade would be a 60mm wheel for the 8blade you have. Guaranteed that will make more power.

I guess research from seeing what other people are posting here and on other forums! Not trying to cause an arguement just saying what I have learned from reading. It may be speculation so I will leave it at that!
