I need a second opinion before going DSM

Nobody else has mentioned it, but I'd be wary of buying any awd vehicle with tires that had significantly different wear. Sure sign of improper maintenance in my eyes and although you may never experience serious drivetrain issues with such a car is rather not take the chance.

Edit: almost forget strut tower rust is a huge thing to be on the lookout for as it is a common problem that can be very severe, make sure to inspect carefully. Hard to tell from the picture but it doesn't seem bad on that car.

Truthfully, the only reason I've seen that people have had problems with their DSMs is because they didn't know what they were doing in the first place and ####ed something up. Every single person I know in real life has had this issue UNLESS it was one of the clutch issues.

Other than that the only reason my car has been down (Which is usually a few hours at most) has been due to routine maintenance you'd have to do on ANY car you buy. I have put almost enough miles on my car in the past few years I've owned it to have to put another timing belt on it. Roughly 65,000 miles I've driven my car so far.

The biggest problem with DSMs is kids neglect to fix things and put their money into shit their car does not need, such as modifications. I imagine these people buying a boat with a hole in it, and instead of fixing the hole for a couple hundred bucks they spend thousands of dollars on new twin engines, then proceed to bi*** when it sinks. Not to mention nearly all of the people on the forum CLAIM they don't beat on their car, but god forbid I drive next to one of you because you are going to redline whatever gear you may be in.

TL:DR, these cars are unreliable because kids don't know what they are doing, run them to death, beat them to shit, neglect maintenance, and modifying a car beyond what other parts can support. They are in all honesty as reliable as any 20+ year old car you are going to be buying, shit gets old.

I am not disagreeing with you but OP had a decent list of "problems" with the DSM he is looking at.

I've had to bone stock DSM's that I took care of and they treated me well, never had any problems.

I've also had 2 modified DSM's that were a nightmare because I was stuck with some one else's problems.
