Hi. I'm Jeremy. Just picked up my first dsm last fall. Originally I was going to try throwing a turbo on my civic, but came across dsm's while reading about how to do it. The idea of awd seemed appealing.
I immediately checked craigslist and there was a '90 Talon awd tsi for $700. It had virtually no rust on the body. It was missing the turbo, exhaust manifold, intake pipe, ecu, had a burnt exhaust valve, and 2nd gear grind.
I went out to take a look at it and saw it had 3" exhaust, an aluminum radiator, and all the gauges. The guy mentioned that it also had an act 2600 and a walbro 255. He declined my $500 offer. I've never done a build before, so I wasn't sure if it was worth it or not. Luckily I decided to go for it.
Since then, I've been doing more reading than I've ever done in my life. I think I've set a realistic goal of ~400 hp on e85 and a total budget, including the price of the car, of $3500. I've been trying to be patient - waiting until used parts show up that I can afford. Hopefully I will have it together and running sometime this year.
