Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

So im going to be getting a new turbo very soon, and im looking for 400-450whp and the car will mainly be a street car so i dont want horrible spool. Im between the FP 71hta, FP Green, and the blouch 20g. I will be on 93 pump gas. Factory 7 bolt internals. FIC 850's, FMIC, walbro 255 pump, fpr, Full 3inch exhaust. I will probably be getting arp studs and new gasket if needed also. Any input?

Fp red if mitsu flange is your choice. I prefere something like a pte 62/62 if your going to spend that much on a turbo and make your numbers alot easier. Pump gas sucks. :(

I agree with the Red being a good choice, but a 6262 for a 400hp street car? That's a 700hp turbo that won't spool till tomorrow. Not to mention it only comes T3 flanged.

OP- I would suggest the Green out of all your choices. It is a very capable turbo and every bit as "bolt-on" as a 20g.

Not trying to sound like I'm on the bandwagon but... HX40 :sneaky:

Second this.

On a cool day I make 470/375 with a Billet 7 Blade @ 25psi on 93 octane.

On 850s you will be able to run 20-21.5psi and easily make your 400whp... (if you know how to tune properly) and have an awesome sounding turbo. Plus, once you have the supporting mods, you can make 600+hp on e85 or race gas.

Also, I'm using the BEP .55 bolt on housing.

Did I mention it probably costs less too...?

:aha:

For your goals a fp green will suit you best no need to over do it. On a street driven car I wouldn't go any bigger fp red, hx35 or hx40 overkill. Also do you wanna stay with a bolt on turbo? If not I personally would run a hy35 with a t3 erl or turbonetics manifold.

There about same price might as well grab the bigger one your still ganna spool fine. The power will make up for whatever spool you will loose. Its a lot easier to make hp numbers with bigger turbos on pump gas.

Those are really nice numbers for a dsm flanged setup. Now you got me thinkin bout my next setup.....

With a DSM flange and .55 BEP i bet it spools like a mofo too. Damn, ive been thinking my next setup will be t3, hx40 6 blade, and a .70(or thereabouts) vband hotside. I might just go this way, seeing how if i throw e85 in the mix i could top 500 easily. But, hey, WTF im threadjacking.

OP: I would suggest the hx40. But if youre sticking to your list i guess the green..... Though the red would be WAY better.

EDIT: Wes, just noticed comment. The 6262 is actually the largest PTE to come with a dsm flanged option. THough i think most would agree its a bad idea. The t3 on that is the way to go but the DO offer mitsu housing for it. Just to clarify.

Thanks for the input guys. i am very surprised at how many people suggested the RED over the GREEN for a street car. I honestly thought the red would spool too late for a street car. Is there not much spool difference between the red and green?

Also i should mention, i dont care to much about top speed. Im more interested in (Throw back in seat) torque, at low to moderate speeds.

Ya know, noticed youre on stock 7 bolt internals, you probably are best off with the green afterall. Or the 20G. You want to get forged internals(i would anyway) when youre trying to flow 45+lbs/min. I mean, not saying it cant or hasnt been done by any means, just saying better safe than sorry. Hell, even a 68HTA or 16g wouldnt be that bad. I missede the stock internals part of your first post, my bad.
You can run any sized turbo you want on stock internals but why do it if you cant really push it and turn the boost up. Youd get all the lag without the killer top end power.

Take thoughts on spool with a grain of salt.. something can spool later/slower and not give the sensation of speed like a 16G would, yet still be faster.

The S200sx in the 56-59mm flavors spools very quickly relative to its size (think GT35R with near 20G spool) in any of the housings available and it would easily make your goals in the bolt-on housing.

I had a very good time with it and would recommend it to anyone with a 450+ awhp goal, it'll perform and give you room to grow in the future.
