Does anyone know how much is current assembly size? (I mean rotor plus caliper)
I am going to buy a set of rims in order to be able to fit in that combo (Evo Brakes) and I want to be sure these fit on that particular 17" inch rim.

I would be nice to know the current assembly diameter

ABS is great for senior citizens, soccer moms, and people who look at their phone 99% of the time they're driving. The reason why most DSMer's who have used their car, that don't fall into those categories, at the track or even spirited driving have made sure their ABS system finds the bottom of a dumpster.

:dsm:

You couldn't possibly be more wrong. From DG himself:

Autocross to Win (DGs Autocross Secrets) - ABS

Although the quality of individual ABS systems may vary quite a bit (some of the cheaper systems can be somewhat crude) I have yet to encounter an ABS system that didn't ultimately make the car faster. Even if it weighs 50+ pounds and makes your engine bay all ugly, you will be faster with it there.

Here's an update, of sorts.

When you get a chance, take a look at the logs that Dennis has posted. Imagine how quick he would have been if he'd been gentle on the pedals. Yes, for him, ABS was important, just as AWD was important. Others can be faster and quicker without it.

I'm looking to do this on my 1g for the rears as well. Since the 1g parking brake will not work with the brembo rears, has anyone looked into installing a mechanical spot caliper, like the ones Wilwood makes (Mechanical Spot Caliper). Further more, has anyone had any luck with fabricating a bracket to mount them?

^^^ I wouldnt mind running two sets of calipers back there... Evo brembos for stopping, and oem for parking brakes. I've seen a pic of that setup floating around. I am guessing its not a simple task. But I would like to see more on it.

Does anyone know which mounting ear for the front calipers has to be tap for the bigger pitch?
Is it the top or bottom mounting ear? Same for both sizes?

I know for sure that i have to tap the bottom hole. I am unsure about the top. I am still in the mock up stage and found out my rims do not clear the calipers. DOH!! :( :(
Yep, another 600 needs to be spent. Here is how far off i am, toooo big for any spacer:

But the good thing is i picked up the 3g master cylinder, brake booster and the non ABS prop valve and front hard lines for 20$ at the local pick and pull. :)

^^is it the bottom hole for both sides? And are you positioning the caliper "upward" or "downward"?

It looks like this:

Looks up AND down to me. I know with some more grinding i can put it more diagnal like some other pics posted in this thread.

offset on rims? curious.

Mine? If so they are +45 and will not work. Brake upgrade fail, i know but it was just a mock up, hell the calipers need to be sanded some more and painted. I knew this was coming though. I got a great deal on the calipers and the brackets. I will get the proper offset rims shortly. The same evo 9 i got the brakes from, i will be purchasing his old rims (non OEM) and got his OFH so i can run a external oil cooler and have a spare dedicated port for the oil pressure gauge. But anyways so far i am about 550$ into this swap. Thats all 4 calipers, new brackets, new rotors + pads, 3g brake booster and master cylinder, non ABS prop valve and the 2 front brake hard lines.

Well I hit my first snag with the 3000gt trailing arms. I had forgotten I have 3 bolt axels, so I'm going to have to do a 4 bolt swap before i get any farther with the trailing arms. It does seem like it will bolt up though, from a rough eyeball estimation, do that's promising at least.

Also, holy crap the front rotors are huge!

How did the swap go.? Any news or updates.?

I haven't found a 4 bolt rear end for a reasonable price yet, so unfortunately that's still on hold. I should be getting the car back from the body shop soon, so I well be trying to get it on the road as soon as possible. I decided to wait a little on swapping the front brakes as it would be too hard to break in the engine, clutch, and brakes at the same time. I will update with any progress as it happens.

007: Yup, Im in the same boat right now. Just ordered new rims to test out. Im hoping a 17x8 +35 will fit, but due to spoke design , they may need to be kicked out.

What centerbore? I seriously have the solution for you, as you know from my PMs. tee hee

^ Same one we discussed, 73.1. I take it you got your solution in the mail? Im waiting to see what (if any ) kick out i will need. But im deff going with your solution if/when time comes for it. My wheels get here next week (fingers crossed). I went with XXR 527 +35s

I have 17x9 +35 and need a 20mm spacer to clear the calipers.

Btw, can anyone who has done the swap please verify that this is how the calipers need to be machined to clear the mounting ears on a 2g!

Are you mounting them up or down.. that matters as your bleeders need to pint up. I think u have it mocked so that the calipers are pointing up

What rim design do u have that plays a part. ull be running a 15mm offset, sounds dangerous per wheel bearing discussion.

Worst-case, he moves the cross-tube to the other end. It's a pain, because they paint the calipers after installing the tube, but not impossible.

I was trying to have them downwards to avoid cutting the knuckle that much, but the calipers have been machined already so whatever is required now haha

And they are rpf-1....a lot of evo guys are running this setup and they all checked ok.
Almost nobody in the dsm community has these wheels with the brembo setup so it's kind of hard to get feedback.

those will probably work. they are a popular choice with the evo guys. im getting the xxr 522 wheels for mine with the same offset. they are used but in decent shape and i know they clear the calipers because they came off the same car my calipers did.

Gosh. Last I checked, there was a stunning set of Evo X calipers for sale for around $800.

waiting on rims now..
