I decide to start a build thread on for the next round of modifications to enable faster times. I'm new to this forum, so a little background on my car. I have a 1G blue AWD - 5 speed - Eagle Talon. It’s a 2.3L motor car with a PTE 76mm billet GT42R. I would be running a PTE6766 if it was around when I purchased my 42R 7 years ago! I have been running the car on the street and down the track up to this point. In October with a cold track I ran a 9.8 @ 158.7mph, earlier in the year I ran a 9.40@ 156.6mph. When I made the 9.40 pass the car weighed in at 2870 with me in it and I’m around 195lbs. I have been in the 9’s on the same motor for around 3 years now. I self tune the car and I don’t have dyno numbers.

Here are some pictures of where the car sits today:

I have a plan to get the car on a diet with my goal of running in the 8’s next season. I just purchased a PPG dog box too, that may help! I have a big winter full of work planned. I'll fill everyone in as I go.

amazing car bro, so the 76m was too laggy? or you wanted to race in the 67mm class?? Car def has 8s in it on a harsh diet. Why the twin BOVs if you dont mind me asking...What got your heart set on the 6766?

HE was saying that if the new tech turbo had been out aka the 6766 was out he would have one instead of the 42R that was around when he put this car together.

:hi: mark, I need some tips this year going to get a bit more race focused with my car.

Not a problem, I can help. I usually work on my car during the weekend. Feel free to swing on through sometime!

Yep Yep!

The 76 is not as laggy as you would think. I hit full boost around 6200 from a 3rd gear roll on. I’m still not flexing the full potential from this turbo, I’m running 40 -45psi. Dual blow offs were used back in the day when I though pressure spikes were the culprit to broken throttle body shafts, I have not broken one since I added the second BOV. I was using a super cheap throttle body back then though.

Update:
This Wednesday I took out the motor and transmission. I put a plan in place for what I would like to do for the winter projects. It’s going to be one of my more aggressive projects if I do everything I want. I’m starting off by removing the entire electrical harness, my harness is fully stock right now and there is so much wasted weight. I ordered an eight circuit Painless fuse panel (With Flashers built in) to get the functionality that I need. This will be a good amount of work, but well worth simplifying everything! Basically it will have head /parking/ brake lights & turn signals, and power the ECU, gnition, and gauges. It will be a push button start and a toggle ignition switch. I will have a separate relay for the fuel pump, since it draws over 30 amps at full pressure. I'll include pics as I go.

Last post for now:

This was a pass from this summer at the MAP proving grounds at BIR:

Looks good. Good luck with your build. Just a quick question; where did you get those CF fenders?

I had a good weekend, worked on the car on Saturday for about 8 hrs. I co-located all of my gauges in the fabricated instrument cluster.

IMG_20121216_191209.jpg

I’m going to cover up all of the old gauge location holes. I have not wired everything yet. About the wiring, I removed all of the unnecessary wiring that was just dead weight. I left all of the critical ECU functions and lighting wiring (headlights/parking, brake, turn signals, and reverse lights). I weighed everything after I was done removing it and it came up to 43 pounds! I know the 1G's are horrible for wiring efficiencies; I was kind of shocked when I weighed everything out! Even more weight is going to come out of it. I haven’t even touched the doors yet, the factory crash beams are still there too! I cannot remember what the weight was the last time it was on the scale at BIR with me in it, but I know it was in the lower 27XX range and I’m about 210 with all the safety gear/helmet??? I should borrow someone's corner scales to find out for sure, but 43lbs so far is not bad!!!

Yikes the roll cage bar is over pretty far. That doesn't annoy you while driving this thing? That looked like a badass setup should be interesting to see the new one.

It’s not really in the field of vision, it doesn't bother me. Long story short I would have liked to see it further over as well, again it’s not as bad as it looks!

There won’t be many changes to the power department this year, more fuel is the biggest thing so I can turn up the boost a little more.

Just got the passenger side door weight reduction done. I weighed the crash beam and it came to just a little over 12 lbs. I took out the electric window motor and it installed a mechanical crank. Drilling spot welds was easy, I just wrapped tape around a drill bit so it could not penetrate too far into the door. I used piano wire to break the adhesive bond between the crash beam and the door skin. Then an air body saw to remove the door metal and an angle grinder to cut the beam. It took around an hour and a half to get it all wrapped up. Not bad for that type of weight savings! I removed a total of approximately 20 lbs out of the door!

I also took the brake booster out, it was a little lighter than what I expected at around 8 lbs. I need to machine an adaptor bracket to fit up the other master cylinder I ordered.

So far so good!

I see someone doesn't have a newbie status any more LOL. What do you think of the wire quality on the painless kit? I used a different brand for my old car and never got to see the quality of that brand kit in person. Any estimate on the weight of the door with lexan in it and gutted?

I'm just using the 12 circuit painless fuse block, I ordered wiring separate on ebay.

I don't know the finished weigh of the door, however it feels way lighter when you open and close it now.

I machined up an adaptor plate yesterday for the new master cylinder.

Can you shed some detail on your pvc system?

It's an -an16 to 3/4"npt fitting in the back of my cylinder head.

2 thumbs up !!!! Nice machine...

Thanks!

Sick ass build man, how's the tranny holding up and who built it?

I built my transmissions up to this point, and used evo III gearsets, however I just bought a PPG shep built dogbox. I'm looking forward to no more 4th gear failures!

I just finished up my per cylinder wideband installation today. I just need to finish up my back pressure sensor to complete the manifold setup.

How does that pvc system work? Do you get much oil in the catch can? Do you have any problems with oil drain-back from the head? That looks much better than going from the crankcase directly.

Yes there is some oil in the catch can. I get about a 1/3 quart of oil in per 1/4 pass. Not much oil passes while on the street. No oil drain back issues that I can tell.

Update:

I had fueling issues last season when I swapped cams to a set of S3’s. I researched pumps and I like the idea of only having one pump. So I went with a Weldon 2345A. I modified the mount on my tank to fit the pump:

Very impressive car my friend!!

What fuel are you running?
