Yeah, 5.56 is hard to find around here too. Just keep scouring the internet.

Thankfully, I have a bit stashed away ;)

wwell, after having "hocked" my .357 S&W 65-5 to my mother for 400 bucks this year for some bills i needed to pay i finally go tthe cash to buy it back only to learn she'd grown too attached and din't want to part with it...Sssoooooooo, on to the web i went looking (cabellas' online) and then the next day off to the store i drove to pick up this baby.. I had always liked Taurus although some have always hated, i still took the plunge for my new CC peice... here's 10+1 of .45 ACP that with some feed ramp smoothing and polishing along with some light mag work and some filing of variouse working parts (just basic cleanup i'd do to anything i own beit car, gun, or lawn mower LOL ) she went from nice but jamming on cheaper ammo to all out just plain NICE all the time (i got a little pissed when i was stove piping on break in with winchester bulk ammo, the FDT-TAP was flawless constantly though so i knew it was a cheap ammo issue but i wanted it corrected none the less, so i put a couple hours into her and she's now reliable enough for me to feel confident with it as a CC personal defense peice)

Millenium, PT145
(all my other's have been posted in previouse pages, Yugo M-70 paratrooper 7.62x39 rifle, S&W M&P 6906 with modded 59 series mags for 15+1 cap, former 65-5 + variouse hunting rifles/shotties and some other odd plinkers of the .22 cal breed)
first one i've ever been able to see the slug while chambered aside from seeing the cylinder of a revolver..talk about a scary POV LOL

a very wise post i thought could use re-itterated.. I would also add that if you are young especially that there's nothing to test your measure of self control and self restraint than owning a hand gun.. All those times you get mad and think "i'm gonna kill that sum-a-bi***" well, then you better have all the thoughts below and more to help you keep your ass out of prison.. you'll never know how truely self punishing it is to have to pull and or use a weapon ni selfe defense until it's already happened.. I could not imaging the regret, self hatred and disgust any moral person would experience having used one in a fit of rage, crime of passion or in shear anger.. one thing to truely tes the level of "adult" you've risen too, at least in my mind would clearly be having your CCW permit in the early 20's (in fact i think that's too young based on personal experiences when words are exchanged over something like a girlfriend's ass being shown off and both parties are liquered up, being the one with the CCW, if you can't take the route of the bigger man and let it go you will surely find yourelf in lifelong regret (a.k.a. prison) over something that was nothing more than some drunken horny words that would have been beter off left alone, but being men, we all know how often that happens

Guns are a blast to own and shoot, my dad has a Glock 27 .40 cal. and I have a AR-15 plus a bunch of others. I've owned many since I've been a kid and I plan to own many more. Be careful with whatever you buy though. Treat it as if it's always loaded. My brother was cleaning his buddies pistol once thinking it was empty and ended up blowing a hole through his apartment floor. Imagine if there was a body in the way......

Just one thing about you wanting to own gun for self-defense, make sure that you are willing and ready to use it. If somebody breaks into your house and you pull a gun, there is a chance that you are going to have to take their life. Are you willing to do that? Can you do that? He/she may run, but what if they try and wrestle the gun from you?(back to the scrawny white guy comment) You will be in even more trouble than before. I don't want to bust your bubble, anything but that! Guns are fun and are a very good self-defense tool. But just keep in mind that they are NOT toys and CAN and DO kill people.

Good luck shopping, if you're looking for a self defense weapon, you may want to look at a .40 caliber pistol. It hits almost like a .45 but doesn't kick nearly as bad. It only kicks like a 9mm. My Uncle is a police officer and he uses a .40 for that reason. He's shot people with a 9mm and they just kept on comin. The .40 will stop somebody in their tracks, and you can control your second shot if needed.

You seriously took a picture looking down the barrel?!?

Anyway. My wife agreed that she wanted something for home protection. So we picked this up.

FNH FNX-9

Caliber: 9 mm
Operation: Double-action/Single-action
Barrel Length: 4"
Twist Rate: 1 in 10" RH
Weight: 21.9 oz. empty
Length: 7.40"
Height: 5.45"
Width: 1.55"
Magazine Capacity: 19 rounds (though the website states 17 )
Ambidextrous usage.

Because I am a left hand shooter and my wife is a right hand shooter, we are going to get a front-site laser, so no adjustments need to be made to the iron-sights.

well the camera is digital, not like ihad to poitn it at my face or anything LOL, plus knowing how to properly handleand work a firearm that is in good shape with a working safety as well as the glock style trigger safety feature i'm not too affraid of a firearm in my own hands... but you have to admit that's a pretty cool picture :D

one thing i like about the taurus compared to my smiths and some others' i've owned or shot is taht it will fire without a mag inserted..you know in case you're ever in som die hard, hans gruber top of thenakatomi building style situation where the gunhas to apear empty and you use that one shot to take out two international terrorists and save 200 and some odd people (you know it's rare but every third weekend or so that shit does happen LOL )

OH and i should be in the F-burg here by mid february at the latest.. not sure i'll have any firearms on me as i might fly and i'm not trying to go through whatever hastle that would be these days, but if i drive or swim which is as likely as chartering my own plane i'll bring my toys out and we can shoot at my friends place up in culpepper

I picked up an AR the other day. It's a DoubleStar, never even heard of them. It was the last on the shelf. It's pretty nice though.

Went to three stores today, called five others, all sold out of AR15s and .223/5.56.

Anything AR related is just about impossible to find currently.

I saw a La Rue going for 5K (used, no optic/accessories) as a private sale. Crazy! :D

what's got AR"s flying off the shelves?? you'd think if it were "end of times" grab what you can the AK would be more sought after because of simplicity, reliability and availabiulity of surplus ammo available in bulk. but although i'm an gun enthusiast i don't keep track of the trends.. i just get what i like and shoot them, clean them and never sell them :D

Sold out of AR's??? I was just at Cabellas and there were like 10 of them on the shelf... anyways this is what I picked up at Cabellas while I was there:

PSE BruteX 40-60# RTS

Just got back from a little range time this morning. Went to Walmart first and there were ZERO guns in the case. Sold out of 9mm and .223 rounds as well. Good thing I stocked up on .223 rounds here recently.

The Smith and Wessons were probably M&P 15-22's. They're nearly identical to their major caliber brothers. They're also awesome to shoot. The others were probably so high in price, they weren't worth it, due to the recent price raises that many gun stores have had to undergo.

My buddy Mike told me a few weeks ago that he was interested in buying a handgun. I told him if he could wait until my 1911 came in, I would take him to the range and he could shoot the 1911, my XDM .40, maybe borrow my Dad's .22 pistol, and he could rent a 9mm of some sort, just so he could get a chance to shoot a couple different calibers and get a feel for them. At the rate things are going, if he wants to buy a gun with a normal capacity magazine, we're going to have to go to the range quick and he'll just have to make do with what he can try out and like. Then, when it comes time to make a purchase, I'm going to urge him to pick something on the shelf and buy it on the spot, rather than wait.

Politics, mostly.

About all I'll say on that topic here.

Thank God I stocked up on PMAGs while I was in.. and pistol mags! :D

I also have rubber grips and some Wolfe springs on the way for it. Can't wait to put a lot of rounds through the barrel of this thing. :D

Savage 10FP .270 long range target rifle (love Accutriggers!) W/ a Nikon 870 scope

Winchester .300 mag hunting rifle with a T10 Redfield.

Ruger Mini-14 and a 10/22 with a bull barrell for sillouette shooting.

M1 Garand 30-06 (ping!)

Remington 1100 12ga shotgun with an extended magazine tube for 9 rounds of 2 3/4 shells, a heavier recoil spring, and a thumbhole stock. 2 barrels, one short improved cylinder for home defense, one long full choke for hunting.

Browning BT99 customized 12ga shotgun for competition trap shooting. (I shoot A Class ATA Trap)

Colt Python .357 revolver

Taurus 9mm PT24/7 Tactical (my carry gun)

Walther PPK .380 (my wife's carry gun)

Freedom Arms .454 Casull revolver (impractical, expensive, and painful to shoot... But holy crap, it sounds like a Howitzer!)

Smith and Wesson .22 revolver

...and hopefully I'll be getting a Savage 110 BA .338 Lapua sniper rifle to replace my .270 so I can start shooting 1000 yard match shoots up at the NRA Whittington Center next year. :D

The .338 Lapua and the .338 Remington Ultra Mag are virtually identical ballistically. Everyone wants the Lapua because AI sniper rifles have been so widely accepted for extreme long range performance by military snipers, but really it's only a tiny bit different than the Remington. If you have a choice, the Remington is cheaper to buy and shoot, and is just as effective in a good rifle. Cryo'd heavy barrels help maintain dimensional rigidity and keep accuracy tight. The .338 in either shell heats up the barrel in only a couple shots, so a long, heavy barrel helps if you have to shoot more than a few shots at once. That's why I am going with the 110 BA. It has a massive cryo'd barrel and the adjustable Accutrigger. It feels very similar to a Barrett M82 .50 BMG rifle... Just a bit smaller.

The .338 is fun but I'll stick with the .308

Much cheaper to feed (even with handloading) and components can be easily found. Well, not these days, but that seems like any caliber LOL

Glad I bought all of my stuff. Only thing missing is a decent suppressor (damn you, CA!!)

Savage rifles are pretty nice. I bought a 10FP in .223 just for fun and that thing shoots half MOA out of the box with quality loads. Was making hits out to 800 with 75 gr SMKs. Not as energetic as a .30 cal or larger, but for a .223, very impressive.

just picked up a ptr91 scc in 308. 5.56 is to "evil" of a round for me so i had to go bigger.
