got a haynes manual but its not to clear. well it is but i think i might have missed something. i am doing a head gasket on my spyder gst and i think i might have screwd up the timing. when the timing belt was on i put the piston at TDC. now do i have to time the other marks for sure?the marks behind the ully? as of now the head is off, so when i put the head back on how will i time everything back to be in sync? if i get get the steps to timing that would be very much apriciated. thanks for all the help

p.s i have no time to look for this so please no harsh comments. i am very busy and in a hell of a rush. thanks again.

the way that i timed itwas by turning the gears on the cams.on top of the head.not by turning anything on the block.if one i turn the cams would thhe timing be set? and do i just inspect to see if the marks are timed already?

Check the vfaq for a clear, step by step. But to answer your question, dowel pins on the cams must both be in the 12 oclock postion and all timing marks inline with the top of the head surface. The haynes manual isnt clear on that part, but everything else it says is.

nah not in that kind of rush. in class not supposed to be on dsm tuners.LOL so the head is the only thing that gets turned?in the manual in shows a couple other places that need to be timed. are those timed being that i timed the head and lined everything up on the top end?

You have time to time the rear balance shaft, if you still have it. If not, then its just setting tdc and lining the timing marks up, and tensioning it correctly so it doesnt jump back out of time.

All the maks have to be aligned, if you still have balace shafts.

Front BS to crank will be the first aligned by the marks, then the main belt.

Cam gears aligned, oil pump marks aligned, and the crank marks aligned.

Click the link I posted above,

then there is another link you will click for 1g or 2g

It will have pics, along with step by step instructions.

There are 5 gears that all have to be aligned with the proper marks. If not done correctly, the engine could run poorly or not at all, or shake.

Get the belt really wrong, you will bend valves in the head.

taking your time is the key. i messed up twice. it took me two days. i put everything back together and it was off. had to get the head re built and do it all over again. take your time. always double check and make sure everything lines back up. i belive it is 6 full revolutions of the engine to make sure things are lined up. if i am wrong can someone please enlighten me so the op doesnt mess anything up. i heard you dont have to have the oil sprocket directly on, but i would make everything line up to the marks so you dont have an issue or got to worry about something going wrong.

good luck bro, take your time especially since it seems this is your first time and double triple check everything.

Hey guys I finished up on the job I was doing on my car, it ran great for 2 days. Lol I did a good job for it being my first time. I took it to a mechanic and he said every thing was fine. The second day I was driving it and it made a pop noise and turned off. Now it turns over but no crank, did it jump time? And how would I fix it? If you guys know. Thanks in advance

Also the belt looks like it got snagged on something

The only way to be certain it jumped is to pull the covers and check the timing marks. If any of the marks are off more than 1-2 teeth, it's likely that you bent some valves and the head needs to be removed for repair/replacement. So check the timing marks and let us know what you find.

Here's an update, the belt was cought on something. What ever happend the metal behind the camshaft sprocket is bent. It goes through a sensor.how can I get the sprocket off?

Also the camshaft gear is a little loose, is that bad?

Also the camshaft gear is a little loose, is that bad?

The crank sprocket is held on with the giant bolt in the center of the crank. The sensor plate slides off after you remove the crank sprocket. The crank sprocket should not be loose if the bolt is torqued down.

Did you check the timing marks? Any idea what damaged the belt and the plate?
