I own a 96 dodge ram 2500 with the cummins 12 valve turbo diesel. They can be had for around 8k or cheaper. The 12v cummins is known for its reliability and they are super easy to work on and even easier to make alot of power. I tow a 9k lb boat sometimes and it tows with no problem. Around the city i.get 19mpg and im no granny driver. Do your research on the 94-98.5 cummins 12v and youll fall in love.

wow I never saw it weird.
It weighs around 2600 I'd guess now.
450whp might be a more realistic figure, it was running lower boost but better tuned than when it made 420whp @ 27psi. Who knows though what it was. It was at like 22-23psi when doing those runs but the tune was better with vtec turned on which actually makes a huge difference.

Yeah I figured it was decently light. This summer should be fun with some pretty close races. I picked up about 100whp too, over my last passes. I'm toying with getting some qtp's or somthing.

I concur. You cannot beat a 12v cummins for reliability/economy/power. It really pains me to say that, but it's true. The early first gen trucks would do good, but they don't have an AOD trans, so you'd need a manual to get mileage.

Mine is an automatic. Ive had to rebuild the trans but its got the goodies to handle 800wtq which ill never see that. Ive done all the "free mods" and thats as far as ill go with mine.because its a work truck.

Yeah but someone told me once bc of the gears in the auto cummins they won't really go over 70 or get good mileage on the highway. That's why I was leaning away from the auto 12 valve 4wd cummins even though that's what I really want.

I went from spartanburg sc to saint augustine Fl on 63$ or 3/4 tank of gas riding btwn 65-70 all the way. It gets good mileage just not over the speed limit;) and not as good as my dsm but i can't tow with it LOL.

The sweet spot for mpg is to keep it at 2k rpm. Above that and you lose mpg. My truck has absolutely no problem doing over 70. However, my truck is 2wd and not 4wd. Idk what mpg on a 4wd is

I would get the cummins, great motor that will outlast the body of the truck as long as it is taken care of, just resist the mod bug. Diesels get better mpg with little mods LOL ;)

If you've got a uhaul near you just rent a truck to tow with when you need, will take a long time to spend 10k on rentals not to mention you don't have to insure it or pay for maintenance. ($200/ rental would still be 50 times of renting before having paid in 10k). Really depends how many times in a given year you want to tow. Plus at your age it will be beneficial not to have a car loan or be tied down with multiple vehicles. Granted the downside is the hassle of picking one up when you need. This is all based on me assuming all you want a truck for is to tow, obviously if you're looking for it to also be a dd that is something else to consider

I agree i got 17 mpg before my 5'' straight pipe and pump mods on my 12 valve and now i get 19-20

2005 Nissan Titan Crew Cab RWD. I just bought this and haven't had the chance to tow my dsm yet. First time towing anything will be on the 21st.

I almost wish I had gotten a Turbo Diesel truck. This thing is ridiculous with gas. 17mpg not towing anything..... on the highway.

I just would like to add something... we had to tow the GST home from the base not too long ago. Towed it with the new '06 Dodge with the 5.7. It's like the damn car wasn't even there. No change in power, no change in mileage, period. Fuggin awesome. Just figured I'd let yall know :)

Just as an update. I did end up towing a 1g AWD for aprox 75 miles in my Nissan Titan... Now Im not sure if this was because of the direction of the car on the trailer (heavy side closer to the truck) and I had 2 full longblocks in the bed of my truck, but i definitely noticed that I was towing something, in fact, I noticed so much that i wasn't sure which car was driving, the one being trailered or the one pulling the trailer. Again, this could be because I had 2 longblocks in my truck bed and was using a uhaul trailer. My truck is not lifted so it was sagged a bit in the back, im a towing newb, so i just let the guys at uhaul hook it up and make adjustments.

I just wanted to give my review with a 2005 Nissan Titan Crew Cab, can anyone with a Titan chime in to tell me if they've had similar experiences?
