You should look at https://www.usajobs.gov/ now to start the job process. It took my wife 1 1/2 years to get a decent job. Its a great deal if you are married over here though you get a ton more money(not sure if thats in you futureor not....). You will like it up on mainland i am stuck on a little island that is horrible.

Yea, he's discussed getting married "on paper" (but continuing to live like bf/gf) so he makes the extra pay and making the move/living over there a little bit easier. But I believe marriage is something you should WANT to do and not NEED to do. I'm already convinced romance and chivalry are dead, but this is one thing I don't want to toss away for the sake of convenience, LOL.

Appreciate the website, I'll look into it for sure. Worst case scenario, I'll just sell/ship JDM parts to my Honda friends, haha.

Any plans for picking up something to play with while you're there that's unobtainium to us in the us such as a r32-34 Skyline, EVO 1-6, Silvia, etc.? Your bf drives the green widebody EVO in town, right? Any idea what he's wanting for it?

Mentioned this twice. Might want to fix it before you post the how-to and mention it twice.

The first time in the guide it says to put some under the car in a bucket, and the second time it's mentioned it says to put some in the interior.

Also all "unobtanium" cars that I've seen are badly beaten on by dickheads in the service. I dunno how it is there, but here in Korea it's not worth the hassle to purchase a car from a National. Also, I've personally seen 3 dickheads tell me that they're taking their Skylines home, and either blow them up with their sweet SAFC tunes, or they get left at the docks. IMO it's not worth it to own a fancy paperweight for the time there.

I agree. I had a really nice Toyota Mark II tourer V with a 1jz in it. loved that car but the idiot who i bought it from didnt do the proper maintance and a week after I bought it, the thing grenaded. I ended up with a $500 camry, has crapped on me yet.

Silvia is definitely my first choice, with a Supra at a close second. I'm not a huge Skyline fan, and the boyfriend is already planning on an early Evo.

If he posts he Evo for sale, I'll let you know.

I was on Okinawa for 3 years and drove a Evo 4 it was fun. Im sure you will like it but youll miss FL to Im from the Tampa area. Good luck with everything.

I was told that jack stands are awfull for unibody cars as it flexes the chassie putting unwanted stress on the car. I have also heard that haveing the shocks uncompressed is bad.
That's why you place the jack stands under the control arms.

Same, I'm rocking a $500 Kia Capital with 255.6K and only thing I've done to it is a new battery and some oil. Meanwhile in Skyline-a-palooza they're spending thousands on headgaskets. I had an Army SSG tell me he spent $1200 on a dyno tune with a SAFCII... three weeks later I shit you not he has a new Skyline because his RB bit the shit on 32psi. He crushed it for spare change.

:(

I'd bring back something cool, but the NHTSA sure has a vice on our balls when it comes to cool.

My .02:

Put the BF in storage, and just keep driving the car to the shootout and around the country to keep it fresh. :D :p

Anyone else volunteering to put their girlfriends in storage long term? I met some annoying significant others at the Shootout, LOL.

This is where I'm getting mixed information, and I know there are different rules for storing a car over a short period of time over a long period of time.

Example: Filling up the gas tank all the way to prevent rust. May work for a short term, but that would just be a waste of gas over a years worth of time.

Otherwise, the other suggestions were very helpful and I'll add them to my to-do list :)

The gas will be stabilized and therefore will not break down. No wasted fuel. Heck, the price of gas may rise by the next time you want to drive it so you could look at it as a tiny investment.

I wouldn't spray WD-40 anywhere near my brakes. Any surface rust will come off the first time it's driven. I'd worry about the WD-40 soaking into the pads and ruining them.

Mentioned this twice. Might want to fix it before you post the how-to and mention it twice.

Since I don't have organic brake pads I didn't think there would be a bother.

Thanks for noticing the formatting error, will fix.

I've seen cars sit for 15months of a deployment, get started once a week & they ran like they did the day they were parked

Not today's fuels. I have an older Ford truck that sat for a year recently and a full tank of fuel was junk even with StaBil in the tank. I'd give it 2-3 months MAX even with StaBil.

Hey i could put you both up ROFL. Its f'ing ridiculous how you cant get cars like that here. There are domestics built here just as potent, but they burn enough gas to light up chicago.

Well I don't want to ask the person doing me this favor to go and start her up once a week, LOL. Once every 1 or 2 months should be enough. Warm her up, make sure there aren't any rodents making a home in my engine bay, etc.

I'm just worried about lines that may get old, stuff getting stuck or rusty, stuff like that. I don't want to come visit, take her 2000 miles to the Shootout and realize there's a huge problem during the drive, haha.

i was just dropping my .02

Coming from someone in the military...

Dont get married for the benefits, it has a undesirable effect or ruining a other wise good relationship...

Ive seen countless relationships ruined because the one in the military guy/girl get "crazy" once things are official LOL

One experience against another...

...because it's worth risking the fuel turning to shit inside your fuel system? I don't see what you're getting at.

I know while I was rebuilding the carb on my truck to get rid of the varnish problem that I vowed never to rely on StaBil for a lengthy storage.

Yea, I dont plan on it. I'm willing to take my chances unmarried in a different country until we get to the point where we actually want to get married, LOL.

+1. Happened to three different girls I knew from High School who ended up divorced/single moms.

I was just saying that the STA-BIL method worked for me but not for you so our experiences kind of cancel each other out.

Stabil worked for me, 11 month storage. The fuel was definitely ruined, but it started right up and with it tuned down it got around town until I could refill the tank.

E: I also didn't have a problem with this because I was still running a "stock" fuel system with nothing more than some used Evo550's and a Wally190lph. I don't know if you'd want to do it with a more expensive fuel system
