Depends on the color of the light and the state you live in.

This looks like blue, which would be illegal in a lot of states.

It's actually really white. For whatever reason on the camera , it looks blue. Glad for all the positive feed back. I think it's a cool mod.

Thats sweet I want to make one not to copy you but I love this

Please feel free to reproduce however you want. Just wanted to inspire some creativity in fellow DSM ers

Whats hilarious is that street glow lights and all that neon , is something that anyone can do on any car...this is specific to dsm. And honestly , I didn't really know how would turn out. But I will say it turned out much better than I thought and with some tweaking could really clean up nicely.
Maybe when you do it, you can cut out the outline but then again you're too cool for all that neon.

Jesus Christ I said I liked the damn thing. And when the Hell did I say that I didn't like neon/underglow? It's just whenever there is a thread about lighting it is usually followed by a trail of hate messages so I thought it was funny/ironic that this one had a lot of positive response. I didn't mean to be offensive, I'm sorry if it came out that way.

There are LED emblems made pre wired for this very application. They are about 3" on each side of the diamond. One will run you about $22.00. They come in Red White and Blue Leds. During the day they are a type of silver/grey/white, similar to the standard chrome diamond emblem. I am in the process of wiring two of them, one to each door, so I can have a door courtesy light as you are getting in and out of the car.

This is a great idea, how did you end up running the wire to a switch/power source? Under the bumper cowling or in a harness connected to the frame with breakaway connections to the LED light?

Over all nice innovation on your part.

I like it a lot. It's not over the top and isn't something that grabs too much attention.

It's unique yet subtle, I think that's the main reason I'm attracted to it.

But I think people will copy it until it's played out if someone was to start selling them at a DSM friendly price. Kind of like all the Murdered out DSMs of 2007.

Ok so let see if I can answer everyones questions here..... first off, I ,finally finished it. Made a couple of adjustments after some thought.
First i decided that the acrylic sheet on the top being a somewhat soft and porous plastic would get dinged and dirty way too quick so I added a clear smooth sheet of mylar. Its almost paper thin and glossy so i matched the paint better. Its sold at a hobby shop.

Next I ran a thin ring of sealant around the area facing out on the top layer to seal the plastic from water coming in.
Heres where I changed direction. At first I thought it might be cool to get light from the led onto the FMIC but after thought I knew I couldnt. Its just too 99' era tuner..... So I isolated the led to the emblem by spray painting some cardboard and placing on the last layer to be screwed down. Than I ran layers of that super all weather gorillas tape over the back to seal it all in. Worked great.
As far as the wiring I tapped into the side marker lights but that didnt have the power to turn it on surprisingly, so i tapped into the tail light fuse.

I had an old switch in my car used to override the dvd player in my car when Im in drive, but since I dont use it anymore I cut the wires and ran to that switch as a relay so just incase i can turn off the emblem if need be.

Sorry I didnt get picture but I was trying to get this thing done before the weekend.

P.S The screws in front holding the assembly together were just some black screws with a philips head on top so to try and clean that up a bit , I filled in the tops with superglue, made them smooth and painted them black also. Cant tell what they are unless your less than a foot away.

I really like the white emblem in the day. Really smooth. Turned out better than I thought

You can find glowing mitsu symbols all day on ebay.
Mitsubishi 3D LED LOGO Lighting Front or Back | eBay

Honestly I didnt know those even exist. Hell I even did a search before I started. Way to ruin it for me..:nono: But I made this in about 2 hours and I think it looks better. Mine is frosted and I didnt have to wait for ebay to ship from china.....

Those rivet things are throwing me off now..Those look tacky.

Im not anal retentive about stuff like that. I knew going in it would look like that. I really didnt have many other ways of making it hold the led ring and staying secure.
I dont think its bad at all.

So.After I seen this thread last night..I ordered a roll of yellow leds..LOL

I think yellow would match your car perfectly. I thought about doing red since thats my engine theme but no one sees that going down the road so I went with something to match my headlights

Those rivet things are throwing me off now..Those look tacky.

Honestly Im sure theres a cleaner way to do it but seeing as I started at like 9 pm one night and once I get tunnel vision on a project I want to finish it. It was really an attempt to see if I could get the lighting down, and probably later will find a better way to attach

Holy crap that looks amazing. Idc if anyone says it looks rice or whatever that's unique, represents DSM still but with a little pop. Nicely done sir, nicely done. The rivets look a hair uneven tho, that's the only thing I see unappealing.

I like it... But I drive a car with huge fiberglass fangs in its goofy grin and a BMW Z3 spoiler, so I obviously don't care what anyone else thinks, I just know what I like and that looks cool. I would use a recessed or flat head rivet if you have to use them, or grind those down.

As a side, what the heck made that hump in the hood on the passenger side, mid way down? Did you blow off an IC pipe and have it slam into the bottom of the hood?

Yes.....:ohdamn: the screw in the top is a bit off. The one thing I hate. The drill bit slid a slight bit before it went through.
Other than that , it really looks stunning at night.

Looks pretty nice, it would look better without the rivets of course. It has me thinking... Should I do this emblem on the back tail panel instead of the Eclipse lettering?... Hmmm.

I think the lettering would be cool for sure. More challenging though no doubt.... might look into it. If I do I'll write it up.

You know I actually thought about cutting the tops off the screws but I'm worried the stuff underneath will pull through and fall out. When I have time to pull the bumper off, I may do some counter sunk bugle head screws that will go flush....
Oh and that bump in the hood was there when I bought the car. Looks like something fell on the hood and they hit it back out too hard.

On a side note......if anyone decides to try this mod out, whatever way it may be , post some pics on here. Would love to see em!!:thumb:

Platic epoxy and a cleaned area on the back of the bumper would hold plastic to plastic forever. for a SMOOTH finish.
1st tries on anything are normally trial runs. We all learn as we go and make improvements the next time.
Neat idea, btw.

Well now since that is done..Have your ever thought about adding leds in the headlights like the new audis come? It's not that hard, if you have ever modded headlights before.

My headlights are beat and I though about replacing them but I don't like any aftermarket housings so I'm open to that. if you know how to do it please feel free to send me the link.

i dig it bro!! Shoulda been prepared for the love hate comments. Just like a couple comments. I would try to do somethin with the rivits. It couldnt match the headlights any better!!

Exactly... I have tried out some pretty weird stuff on my car. If it sucked, I learned how to fix it, and if it worked, I learned how to make it better next time. My car is a rolling tribute to experimentation, so I am totally for innovative thinking along these lines (even if some eBay stuff beat you to it...). It shows initiative, and development of cool stuff doesn't happen by following the rules of everyone else. Everyone who criticizes invention and blasts you with what you "should" be doing to be "cool" usually are the people driving a stock looking vehicle. Jealous? Yea... Usually... Either that, or incapable. You obviously have the knack, so don't listen too much to us in the peanut gallery. Do what you think looks good, because your opinion is the only one that counts. :thumb:

Would be neat to see this with a talon emblem with a red backlay. Hmm..

You have an extra one of these emblems? Send it to me, I'll do it for you.

How about a lit talon center tail..Ohh yeah thats been done before:tease:
