Who has pass smog with an evo3 turbo before?
My plan is stock EVERYTHING(besides turbo). Use side s pipe to connect to stock side mount intercooler. I'll cover up the pipe with some black cloth or something to pass visual.
Tech here don't know much about dsm's.
Will a boost gauge matter?

ive done it twice on my awd talon... just paint all your non stock pipes black make sure you got stock intake and maf on with stock vacuum routing and youll be fine. having a boost gauge is not bad as far as i know (could be wrong) and as long as your tune you can run any boost you like cali only checks to 2500rpm and if your stock everything else then just run it at 11-12 psi and youll be fine. as long as the turbo is a mitsu and not a ebay or other brand.

good luck bro ull be fine.:thumb:

Why would the boost level matter? He's not smogging it down the 1/4 mile...

Have you pass with one before?

Twice, two consecutive years whe I first bought my evo3, it was all stock exept the turbo, after that, I went a little crazy, and that won't make that happen.;)

Because it flows more air and he is stock, when there is some management, you can run even a bigger turbo then 16g, However, every car is different, a lot of us pass smog with out a problem, but some of us have to keep the boost down, If he don't care to risk it, then he can keep it normal, but if he wants to make sure it will pass, he should keep the boost low.

There is an article on PRE explaining that, thatsif you want to take a look.

2 things - a boost controller will generally fail you, and when they put your car on the rollers to load test they hold the revs at a certain rpm with a gas pedal gun. They never get into boost period. I'm on a 14b at 18psi and I didn't see him get even remotely close to getting into boost. I passed with a boost gauge and a cat back with a slight boost leak, at that.

dude really?? i passed. just make sure your j pipe is black.

I dont have a evo3 but I passed with a boost gauge n fmic n some other stuff I just painted the IC pipes black.

Yeah I keep on hearing that a front mount is okay... and some others say no. So I'm not sure.

I'll just paint it black I suppose. But I like the chrome :D

I just passed Saturday with boost controller at 14 lbs on a 14b cracked 1g exhaust mani cracked hot side on my turbo with a 22 year old cat. Cool thing is if your awd they can't put you on the rollers they just idle it up to 2500 rpms and a lot of the time they can't hold it perfectly at 2500 so it usually drops to 23-2400

I passed with a a EVO316G and 1000cc injectors, it passed the sniffer (I'm FWD also so had to do the dyno one also) great even though it idles like doodoo. Now for visuals I tried to keep everything as stock looking as possible, had most of the stock heatshields and all my intake piping is painted black. But my smog guy didn't really car. The boost level doesn't really matter because your not going to go into boost at all during the sniffer portion.

I've passed with multiple configurations on a 16G. It should be no problem with a CAT assuming they don't fail you on visual.

My old 99GST passed smog every time at test only stations with an evo3 16g, hks264's, black fmic and piping, supporting fuel mods, 3" exhaust w/non CA high flow cat (no one ever checked), etc. No shiny eye catching parts, kept it looking as stock as possible.

Will, my renewal came in. Time to take it to the shop.
Quick question. I don't remember seeing the STAR program. I remember the Test Only. Does it matter?

Intercooler pipes ok

I asked two different smog techs LOL

I've had smog techs argue with me over stock intercooler piping and others that hardly looked under the hood. It all just depends.

Previously, when I was sure if my car would pass or not, I asked for a smog pre-check to make sure i'd pass visual/sniffer prior to running the smog test. Most techs will stop you right there if they plan to fail you on visual.

My friend in Walnut Creek does smogs now and I think his buddy rate is $45. He does smogs by the book, but he's a car guy and knows the laws.
