Hey everyone, I'm posting because the wife gave me the green light to get a turbo given its 500 or less and i am having a seriously hard time deciding which turbo to go with...as I've stated in previous posts I have a bullseye 57 trim that makes 21psi at roughly 4500rpm and pulls hard but takes a lot of the fun out of my car not having any low end, for that reason I've been really looking at getting a rebuilt evo16g. My goals are 350whp, 12s, and a fun street car....I do have supporting mods but I'm weary of maxing that turbo out, how long will it last at 22-23 psi? That's a concern of mine as pushing anything to its potential sounds scary LOL. My buddy rode in a supposed 350hp 16g talon and said it seemed slower then mine, is the top end that different? Is this the right turbo for me, given my goals? Any input helps, sorry if I come off as newb..I'm also open to ther turbo options, thanks!

You can't go wrong with an Evo 3 16g. Love mine, best street turbo IMO. I'm only running 18 psi, fun as hell upping the boost when my 650's come :p

Yea I love my big16....Really started wanting a 20g, but ive heard there not a great street turbo so im probably sticking with it and getting some decent cams!

I'm pretty sure this is what's in my car:

TD05 Big 16g Turbo turbocharger EVO 3 4g63 4G63T | eBay

and I have no complaints. It scares me that its ebay, but it only seems like theres a bit of up and down play on it, works fine otherwise, it is pretty loud too, sounds like a jet, not sure if its good or not, but I've put probably 4k miles on it since I bought the car. Its spooled by about 4k rpms I would say. I was doing 15psi, but I bumped it back down to 12.

Im also in a similar delima. i have a small 16g and Im wondering if i should max this turbo out before i move on. i have a vrsf front mount,fp manifold that haven't been put on yet. on the car i have a dejon intake, cop setup, and walbro 255. i plan to buy link and new injectors very soon. so my question is should i throw those mods on and up the boost with a good tune. or upgrade to the fp green xl.

Everyone here will agree to get link. Honestly, if you already plan to jump up anyway, might as well save the 16g and sell it as a good used unit and put the money towards injectors or whatever instead of burning it up

There is nothing wrong with a 16g. Its all about total set of a cars build what the owner wants.
I like the quick throttle responce with my 16g.

What i was thinking as it is in mint condition. no shaft play either way. not to turn this into a classified ad. but what is it worth.

not sure I understand what you mean, I don't have the 16g yet but like the idea due to the quick spool and low end power...I'm looking for 350whp if it will make that power for a long time I see myself keeping it once I do get it...as for link I have 2.5, 780cc percision injectors, ect...all the supporting mods for the power ill be making.

As for the twinscroll hot side I've never thought of the idea, is that somthing that somone can point me in the direction of? I'm interested in looking into that before I spend the money on the 16g

I think he was responding to me LOL. sorry to thread jack.

Generally i see used mhi units for around $300, maybe a bit more

Well for instance, the evo 8&9 16gs are twinscroll with a bigger turbine for better spool and flow over older 16gs. Google t3 twin scroll and see what you come up with

Awesome thanks i actually have a friend with a srt-4 looking for a 16g.

They'll need a reverse rotation tdo5hr such as evo8/9 if he was planning on using it on a s3 manifold or having a custom stock turbo manifold modified to fit the larger turbo.

To the OP:
Big16g is a very fun street turbo that spools quick. Mid-low 12s are very possible on pump93 with a good tune, good driving and some boost.
I tuned a friends 1g last week on e85/16g and the car moved real good at 25psi. I was very impressed with it for the setup:thumb:

Hmm may not work out then glad for the input from a real NEON owner :p
LOL my friend gets so mad when i cal it a neon. quick question what turbo would you recommend for him. he is looking to make 350hp.

For the price of a 16g, you could probably get your hands on a decent 20g. Or, buy a blown 16g and make it into a 20g. That's what I did essentially, and it's been fun! I'm going to either keep it or put the 60-1 I'm looking at on it eventually :p

This is actually an evo8 turbo in a stage3 manifold I have. It's the setup I plan to run next spring to get the car into the 11s hopefully, but will probably end up going with a 20g compressor when the time comes

Is your friend looking to make 350whp on pump or meth or e85?
I honestly don't expect to make 350whp on 93oct on the new setup of mine, but it should make around 400whp on e85

He's trying to do it on 93 pump. it is his dd. he has been looking at the delta 42 kit but its kind of expensive.

That only flows 42lb/min while even evo8 turbos can flow up to 44lb/min. Honestly that turbo won't get the job done with 350whp on pump, mayb race gas or e85.
The good ole 50trim works very well on the srts for what your friend is looking for out of his car. It's one of the best, if not the best matched turbos for stock longblock cars. He could probably get the job done on a .48 turbine housing with pretty damn quick spoolup or go with the .63 for some extra topend.
Going to t3 setup on srt's along with all the other supporting mods isn't cheap haha
