kicking out of 5th gear

can you guys give me some ideas to why my tranny could be kiccking out of 5th gear. it seems to be pretty randomly occuring. it just started doing this tonight after i put 500 miles on my freshly rebuilt engine.
 
Not sure If it's a 2g problem but only 1g the 32mnemonic bolt holding my 5the gear on was not tight enough.
 
My 420a tranny kept kicking out of 5th if it was under load. I could stay at a constant speed, but if I started to accelerate it would kick it out. It would stay in if I held it in ROFL
Just picked up another for 150. Perfect shifting condition.
 
i just put this one in last week. =/ it has a tag on it that says it was rebuilt. it just seems weird to me that it started acting up all of a sudden when it was working flawlessly this week.

Back on topic, if its rebuilt take it back to whom ever rebuilt it or you may have possibly got ripped off if bought privately.
 
If you dont have the correct preload on the Cluster bearings it will allow the shaft to delfect under load and pop out of gear.

gotta get a body kit on it bc all of the panels are ####ed on the exterior. but back on topic. i got the tranny from a car that got hit in the rear. but the car only had 120k on it and the tranny has a plate on it with the serial numbers for the overhaul gears. just didnt know if it was something i could have done wrong when i put the tranny in the car, bc my last tranny had a few issues but the main thing was that it wouldnt stay in 5th.
 
just noticed today that there is a little bit of chatter comming from the tranny on low rpms, if that helps anyone.
 
Either hold it in gear, or get a new tranny. Not much more to this situation that that. :D A rebuild will cost you more that a smooth shifting used tranny, and it will cost more than it's worth for a NT 420a.
Unless you really love you car that is. ;)

It happened to me too man, don't sweat it. At least you can drive yours... I didn't have 3/4th gear due to a bent fork and sheared roll pin in a "good shifting transmission" not to mention the synchros which were all garbage.

Just be glad it's 5th and not 2nd or 3rd and live with it for a while IMO.
 
i dont have to live with it luckily. i still have over 2 months left on the trannys ganantee. and these cars only need 1st,3rd,5th and sometimes reverse depending on where you drive LOL
 
Sounds like a bad synchro I had mine rebuilt twice due to the first shop rebuilding it and was doing the same so the second shop used bronze synchros and srt4 intetnals never had a issue again with 562 hp 493 torque.
