Hey everyone

Somewhat new to DSM still learning some things. 3 months ago I finally convinced myself to pull the trigger on a completely stock 1GB TSi AWD auto Talon. Of course the autocars came with the small td04 13g turbo, so I am already itching to upgrade(free mods done). This is my daily driver (for now) and I am gunna try and stay away from bigger size turbos at this time, I find the 13g is a lot of fun around town, with instant boost at normal city speeds and very predictable boost. It just runs of steam to soon though and id love some more upper rpm pull. Im wondering what the potential of these 13g's are. Are the 13g's almost maxed out stock, or is there some more boost to be squeezed out? My other question is, I can pick up a 14b locally for pritty cheap. I know there is a lot more potential out of the 14b and still is very streetable, but was just wondering if I were to install the 14b and not touch the tune(for now) . Would I gain any performance on the stock tune, or will I see no difference in performance at all or potential run worse?

Thanks
Mike

I personally hated my 13g but I loved my 16g. The 16g seem to spool just as fast but hit even better mid n high compared to the 13g. Lots of fun on the streets

I'd get a wideband, boost gauge, and mbc first. The car will be much more fun to drive and launch.

Then a 2g maf, a set of 550's, and a pump rewire. Should set you at a solid 250whp and still have an easy, trouble free set up, great for daily driving. Also easier on your wallet.

Hi Mike, as you know I did all the free mods on that car and it should be at around 13-14psi. Its a old turbo and its not going to last long if you turn up the boost. If you put a bigger turbo on it you have to change the injectors as the stock 390s are too small. So to do it properly you need injectors plus dsmlink or other fuel controller. With that, wideband and boost gauge are also needed, gaskets. So you will spend about a grand plus the turbo. Once the old turbo is off you will find that the manifold is probably cracked. So just getting a cheap old 14b turbo is the easy part, its the other work involved to get it working that cost more then the 200$ turbo. Ohh and a fuel pump would be a good idea. Just leave it alone for now until you can do it properly or get a second car so you can tinker with this one. Oh and the 13g turbo has only 5cm housing on it so its very restrictive. You can try a boost contr and up the boost to 17psi if you really want to.

Hey Paul

Was actually gunna get a hold of you this week and talk to you about this. I know we have talked briefly about this before, and maybe the best thing to do would be to start with a boost guage, wideband like mentioned above, and possibly a boost controller like you said. Should of never gone in your talon's and Wade's colt, I now know what my car could be and thats the problem LOL:D, just have to make sure it never can beat my Trans Am, I get beat by enough DSM's around here, let alone my own potentially LOL

If you want to get a 14b for your car you will need the following:
5 speed exhaust manifold (2g exhaust manni would be better)
5 speed 450cc injectors
5 speed ECU
5 speed fuel pressure regulator

The stock 390cc injectors will max out quick on the 14b because it flows more at the same psi levels.

I have a 2g pressure regulator and 5 speed manifold (1g). The pressure regulator should fit with some modifying. If not I have an extra 2g fuel rail ( not sure if 1g and 2g rails are the same). They are just extra parts off my talon from my last build. Shoot me a p.m.
