Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

I didnt see any fuel mods on your profile. But with a wally 255, bigger injectors and your supporting mods id say you could get 350hp out of it.

do you know its limits??
If the stars align, 36 lb/min or 360 crank horsepower which translates into 280-300 wheel horsepower at the max....unless your setup is extremely efficient, at which point you should probably be using a larger turbo anyway.

the mhi small 16g im at around 300 hp now. with my injectors in and a good tune i imagine i could almost get to 400 hp, maybe not. any advice?
Somehow I'm getting the feeling that you're nowhere near 300whp right now.

Stock your car would be rated at 195 crank horsepower, so around 150-160whp. It takes more than a turbo just one size larger than stock to double your horsepower. Good guess, though.

The good news is that you can achieve low 12's pretty easily on a S16G. I did it back in the day with a turbo back, FMIC, and DSMlink on a stock engine @ only 19psi. A buddy of mine went 12.30's on his S16G as well. I have no idea what kind of power I was making because I've never taken the car to a dyno.

Well 300 hp is my estimate. I have a built 6 bolt with fresh bearing, eagle rods, wiseco stock compression pistons and rings, stock head, crower 272 cams, FMIC , wide band 02 , . I'm all but ready for my bigger injectors, and my dsm link . 400 hp is just screaming in my ear. I want it so bad

...and I'm saying your estimate is inaccurate. You're nowhere near 300whp with the stock ECU's rich tune and stock injectors no matter how built your engine is. If you do eventually achieve 400hp with a Small 16G you will be the first person to do so in the DSM platform.

You could take it to the track and see what your trap speed is and weigh the car to get a rough estimate, or pay to get it dynoed like Justin said. DSMLink has a good HP estimator built in when you do decide to buy it.

yes . im not to worried about numbers, just curious. thanks guys. just in the quest for more power. saving up for the link right now. allready have 650 cc injectors. hopefully when i have it running good zo6s and cobras will see my tail lights. and i want to get rid of my fuel cut. its depressing

I know what you mean, you want to keep track of your progress.

If you are using your butt dyno to make hp estimates in the early mod stages, here's what happens:
You have stock injectors, stock ecu, stock MAF, and stock fuel pump. You put on a good downpipe, 3" exhaust, and go catless, and BAM you hit fuel cut. But wow what an increase in thrust you get from the exhaust goodies (until fuel cut hits). Maybe 60 or 70 ft-lbs more torque than you had before. But what rpm do you hit fuel cut at? Probably 5000 or less on a 1990. Remember that HP is proportional to RPM. So your max HP number is not really that much better than it was before, because before, even though your torque was less, you were able to wind it to higher rpm. When you get your injectors, fuel pump, decent MAF (the 1g maf is useless), and tunable ecu with no fuel cut in there, then you can carry the increased torque up the rev band, where it gives the big HP numbers.
HP=torque x RPM divided by 5252

Whats up guys...just blew out my stock t25 and I was wondering what turbos directly bolt on to the stock manifold?

There are many that will fit your stock manifold.
If you are just looking for a cheap replacement, a small 16G is a great choice.

Well I was looking to get something better than the stock t25 but not too big whereas I can use the stock fuel system still to run it...? like a 14b or maybe a t28...would that be a good idea? I found a couple for cheap that's why I'm thinking one of those...will they bolt on direct?

An even cheaper replacement would be the 14b (stock 1g manual turbo and flows more than t25). I guess it depends on your goals though. small 16g>14b>T25. If you go with the 16g or 14b you'll need a j pipe, water lines, and oil lines.

edit: ^^T28 is direct bolt up including the lines.

Imo Id go 14b people make plenty of power with them. It would serve you just as well as a stock replacement.

Ok cool and how hard is it to swap it in..? What lines and stuff do I need to install it...?

Is the t28 better than the 14b?

It's easy. You can use a stock 1G Jpipe, stock 1G oil feed, stock 2G coolant lines, and for the oil drain line you can get a stock 1G drain or drill the holes out on your 2G line.

A 14B is great, but a small 16G will give you a little room to grow.

That's why he's the turbo guru! As Justin listed, there are a ton of options out there, you just have to choose based on what your goals are. Remember also, get something with room to grow so you don't have to buy a bunch of different turbos as I'm sure once you step up from the T25 the hp big is going to bite and you will forever be on the quest for more. So think of your goals and also consider future plans when you choose.
