I currently don't have a DSM but I'm trying to jump into the game with a decent stock awd DSM and do the build up myself. I've dealt with "built" cars before and I feel much better about knowing first hand what all has been done.

That being said, what do you guys think about this deal I found? I've checked KBB and searched the classifieds here but I'd like some input from guys who know these cars and parts.

$3,250

1992 GXS 5-speed with 180k miles, no smoke, leaks, or cracked hoses. Looks like maintenance has been kept up with and it holds boost well and shifts smooth. Exterior the paint is slightly faded, some clear pealing, and about a hand sized dent in the rear quarter panel. Interior is ok, dash has some holes but overall it's decent. It's an early '92 with the 6-bolt motor :rocks:

Only mods are hard piping IC, head unit, gr2 struts, and an f1 stage 3 clutch (know next to nothing about this clutch).

He's also going to throw in a MHI 16g turbo, 2g turbo manifold, 2g o2 housing, Megan 3" downpipe, turbo timer, Walbro 255 fuel pump.

Does it seem like an ok price? My goal is a 300awhp DD and from what I can tell these parts and a tune would get me there or very close.

The extras can get u to it goal with some injectors and a afpr. As far the price i could be a tad lower. It may run just fine now but its a 20 year old car. You should try to get it in the air and check everything underneath. Suspension wise. Brake wise. Also check the tires. You really need to go through everything just to make sure there are no visible gremlins. Many have paid way less for about the same and more at times.

I have to disagree with the price. It's to high for the mileage even if it is normal wear and tear it's 180,000 miles. You do plan to build it up though. But I would go for a lower price. You can def. find a better deal just have to be patient and find exactly what you want then purchase. When you rush into things because you are anxious you will regret it. Just my 2 cents completely your choice.

Thanks for the input, and the milage does bother me a bit and I see your point. It's just really hard to find a clean stock GSX without some sort of mechanical problems, but I guess it's true patience is a virtue.

However it sems all the maintenance items have been addressed like the timing belt, ball joints, fluids, clutch, PCV, decent tires, etc. But if something was forgot odds are I'll be paying for it. I'm going to run a compression check on it to what kind of health its in tomorrow.

But I might just be talking myself into it. I think he's firm on that price with the parts, maybe without the parts he'll those he'll let it go for $2500. Gah, so torn.

Everyone is right, price is way to high, they might be a gem but not worth an arm and a leg. I waited and found mine in February. 147,xxx mi, bone stock, no paint fade, and perfect interior of 1200 bucks. So just wait and it will fall in to your lap.

The price does seem to steep usually 90-94 built go for 3, 000 to 4, 000 range im sure u can find a cheap one just wait it out like I did I ended up scoring a built 92 talon tsi for 2700 with hx35 , intercooler, mbc, and id1000s , dsmlink the guy must of not known what he was selling LOL

That does seem like alot for a car with 180,000 miles and work to be done to it.

It doesn't really need work as far as I know its mechanically sound. Here's the link to the for sale add if anyone wants to look it over. Going to see how flexible he is tomorrow. FS: 1992 Eclipse GSX

And my mistake, it has 170k. But at that point the point it kind of mute.

What would be a good price for a clean stock 1g with that many miles?

You guys were right, and the guy was completely sketchy. Last minute he mentioned a hard starting problem but wouldn't check the compression on the motor. And as I start to try to talk him down on price, he decides to mention out of the blue that the engine was rebuilt 25k miles ago by a friend, but doesn't have a single piece of documentation. And he never mentioned that in the add or the week leading up to me looking at it. Hard to understand some people. Oh well, the search continues.
