Hi guys, this is my first post ever so please bear with me. I am looking for advice from any and all knowledgeable persons on how to proceed with my build, my setup is not too far from stock I have an EVO III Big 16g, a FMIC, Tubular manny and a stage 3 Shep Tranny. I recently sent my head in to ffwdconnection.com for a pretty serious overhaul (timing belt broke), I went with the all out S/S Dominator setup and had them install their DKS 272's. Also I have an MLS Headgasket and ARP Headstuds, now I know 272's are a bit jumping the gun especially with no way to tune but since I was recovering from the timing belt anyway I figured go for it then. Anyway this leads me to my point I just dropped some serious cash on this head and I am looking to install it as soon as possible, if I get all the timing marks right and do everything properly on the install I should be all right, right? This is the part I'm afraid of cause the last thing I want is to trash my new head. Also after the installation of the head and cams would investing in a way to tune the car be the next best thing? My HP Goal is really just somewhere around 350-400 reliable daily driver, looking to hold my own against some WRX's and wreck some Stang's and Hondas. Thank you very much if you have read this far, any help would be appreciated and I welcome your criticism.

Do maintanance. the evo 3 16g will only get u 350-400 if race gas e85 or heavy modded engine. I made 380whp on e85 at 30psi. If you want those number easier get a bigger turbo. Regrind cams suck and get dsmlink fosho idk why people waste money safc and other junk. Do it right and do it right the fist time instead wasting bunch of money you will be happy. All other basic big injectors fmic exhaust blah blah. Good luck.

VFAQ Site - Visual Frequently Answered Questions is your best friend, aside from tuners.

To save yourself some, buy the timing tool kit from Jay Racing, its only $50.00.
If you mess up on the timing, that tensioner compression tool will save you a lot of headache.

Make sure you have really good mating surfaces for that MLS headgasket, otherwise it wont seal.

Before i knew much about these cars i went with the safc and all that. Seriously. If you have modded your engine with what your talking about spend the money and get ECMlink v3. i was around those same hp goals for the last couple of years for my DD and am now putting in new turbo. Along the way i slowly rebuilt things. cams, injectors, so on and so forth and link made my life so much easier.

Thank you guys for your help, from what I gather with my current HP goals I should consider a larger turbo and of course address the basics such as Injectors, Exhaust, Fuel Pump, etc. As for the new head I should ensure the mating surfaces are immaculate due to the MLS Headgasket and invest in the Timing Tool from Jay Racing, also ECMlink would be the way to go. Am I missing anything? Also with my new head an aftermarket exhaust some injectors and a fuel pump, am I basically ready for a larger turbo?

Stick with the 16g for a DD is the best most larger turbos are laggy. You pretty much are ready to go get a boost controller if you haven't, wideband, boost gauge, oil pressure are the basic gauges for me then link v3 as everybody stated already and get a bigger fuel pump and a FPR (fuel pressure regulator) and some bigger injectors anything larger than 650cc would work.
