Which one would be the best bang for the buck? I really like manual 5 speeds but the GSX is auto :/. How much would a complete conversion cost? Also, would eagle talon parts fit onto it? its a 2g eagle talon as a donor car.

I've driven the GST and wow that shit is amazing. Haven't checked out the GSX but if it were up to you and the info I gave you, which would you buy?

How much power you trying to make. I had that in the end of mind when I bought my gst. I wasn't going to make much power so gst suited me well. If your planning on tons of power/ track car. Gsx will suite you.

After having a 96 GST back in the days and now owning a 97 GSX I'd say get the GSX. Does the convertible play a roll in your decision? Or is it tranny preference that's carrying more weight?

To me that is a hard desision... I mean I'd probably go with the gsx for the awd but I would have a hard time driving an auto... All depends on what you plan on doing with it. The gsx is better and has lower miles, and if you can live with an auto I'd go with that for sure.

Id take the gsx auto. The tranny will need much less modifications(read MONEY) to be a reliable go-fast car. Its all about what you plan on doing. You want fast 1/4 miles: The gsx hands down. First, its awd, second: its auto.
The gst will never be realistically that fast from zero. Yes, it can be done but the money it costs is prohibitive. You will be looking immediately at a LSD in the gst and possibly, most likely, a rebuilt tranny when you start putting down big tq numbers.

When I was searching for my car, thered always be a clean/stock gsx thatd pop up with low miles, but automatic... I used to yell, "WHY DO THEY EVEN MAKE AUTO GSXS?!?!"

Get the GSX; you wont regret it beside the fact that its an automatic. (a personal preference) I have spyder and the top is costly to replace if you cant do the work yourself. I say wait for a 5spd GSX.

LOL, I use to say the same thing. Then I ask my brain "why dont they make an auto EM1 (Civic SI) too, LOL.

Autos have no power loss between shiftpoints, but the tradeoff is no 100% drive between motor and wheels due to the fluid inbetween.

Why 4WD trucks work best with automatics due to no power loss between shiftpoints.

Manuals have the 100% drive to wheels, but you lose the power inertia when you dump the clutch between shifts.

Just, that it's just plain fun shifting and having control of gear ratios where you need the power at that instant.

Your call - what's more important to you?

Go with the gsx. Let's sa down the road you wanna swap it to 5spd, that will be easier then an awd swap on the Spyder. Tho Awd Spyder would be sick to own! :) good luck whichever way you go.

Ohh and id just hold out for a 5spd awd.. Keep searching, surrounding areas Aswell. Might be your location, but I see good condition 2g 5spd awd's around me from $3k-$5k.

I have owned both (92 awd tsi AUTO and currently a 97 spyder gst 5sp).

IMO, at the 2-300 hp levels, the 5sp fwd (or even awd 5sp) is where its at and is much more enjoyable than awd auto. BUT... if you plan to make huge power gains and track the car, then I'd say go with the awd (auto or 5sp). As mentioned above, swapping trannys is easier than an awd coversion. I chose a spyder gst because I wanted the convertible for those nice 65 to 85 degree days and it is not my DD.

Now, my final verdict is..yes...5sp..but if you want to lay bigger power down to the road and you do not care about riding around topless, then remain patient and wait for that 5sp gsx. They are usually popping up for sale very often.

Or as mentioned...covert the spyder to AWD and have one sick ride, which I might do down the road when the money and timing is right.

there are no 5 spd gsx that ever pop up in my area. Ive seen 3 gsx pop up in a whole year. Ive been waiting 2

Is the gst really worth 4k? Its top is shit. Needs tires and windshield.

I would say it isn't worth that much. If you KBB the spyder gst though, they do place them at a good value. I picked my spyder gst up with bad top seals (good top though), no 1st gear, and a small 16g turbo, fmic, greddy bov... for 3200. He posted it originally for 4500. In my area, if those problems are fixed (tranny is fixed)...kbb value for private sale is still at 6k. Did i mention only 90k miles :hellyeah:

This one has some of the lugs missing on the wheels. Leaking top and cracked windshield. its sound system isnt too good and it has no spare tire. Its 157k miles tooand he raced it.

Sounds like you should remain patient unless you can scoop it up for about 2 grand. A top could cost you a grand and a winshield is a couple hundred. Most dsm's will need routine maintenance done from head to toe and that can cost a good amount too, esp if you need to have someone else do it.

I'd remain patient..dont force it even though its hard not to. I looked for my current dsm off and on for almost 2 years until the right car and price.

I agree stay patient. Its easy to talk your self into buying crap when your excited about getting a car. Since im not a patient guy so I tend to inherit peoples headaches aka my current 1G.

I have a auto gst with manumatic control for "shifting". Knowing what i know now, i wish i had waited till i could find a auto gsx. thats my vote

Grab that spyder. In my opinion an awd spyder is the king of dsms (might be biased since I own one), it might be a bit heavier but the ladies love the drop tops!

I prefer the spyder, but the issue is the price. The kid wants 4k ### he dropped 1500 in maintenance and some other bs. The only things hes done to the engine was the balance shaft removal kit or w/e and the 14b turbo with no FMIC.

Spyder GST guy wants 3800 for it after I offered 3500. I think I'll try and go lower.

Time is your your best weapon. Give it a little time. He might realize that 300 hundred dollars could make or break him selling his car and he might decide to give in at 3500.
And while your waiting, keep searching around.

I say too much it wrong with the Spyder, plus its been beat on. That sounds like a headache for that price. For just a little more, you can get a stock, unmolested GSX. I'd go with a stock car all day over a modded one that's been beat on.
