Cyclone doubters take note.

Brad Brooks works his majic on shredder for a few hours saturday. straight 93 octane results were not so hot. this spearco core is not very good for straight pump. it does not remove enough heat. and heat soaked too easy. Best was about 380whp at 20 psi. when intake temps rose above 120 knock reared its head. turning on the meth and intake temps dropped to 65. now thats more like it. made 409 at 20psi. then 447 at 24psi. 475 at 26psi. 507 at 28psi. and finally 524 at 30psi. then the mishap gremlin jumped in the game. the cam/crank connector popped off and caused a massive backfire. unfortunately the head lifted and blew the head gasket. so much for stock 7 bolt head studs. I really wanted to push them harder. shame the connector popped off. I dont want to risk trying them again. so we will say the stock head studs are good for 500whp or better.

new factory metal gasket, arp studs

Picking up where we left off. Every click on the boost controller netted nice gains. At 34psi she laid down 597whp/517tq. This is with boost increased at higher rpms to limit the torque a little. Not wanting to stop 3hp shy of 600 we set the boost to 35. Problem with this is the 3.5 bar map only reads to 35psi. So if the boost goes over 35psi the boost controller doesn't try to compensate because it still thinks we are at 35psi. So for an unknown boost level she layed down a very pretty 622whp/567tq. no knock. This is on 93 octane and alkycontrol meth injection.

here is a rundown on the setup:
shelf stock JE 8.5-1 stroker pistons
eagle rods
factory mitsu 100mm crank, nitrided
7 bolt block with balance shafts for smoothness.
7 bolt head with intake ports widened to match 1g port width.
cyclone dual runner intake epoxy filled to reduce port height to match 7bolt
(lots of work to make cyclone work on 2g ports)
crower 414 cams
880cc injectors
evo8 valves, evo8 springs and retainers
mild street port by jerry
2g manifold with adapter to mount GT35RLS (.63hot)
tial 38mm gate
3 inch exhaust with quiet magnaflow muffler
AEM tuned, boost controlled

best hp on old setup was 567/511. it was sick fast at that level.

Brad Brooks is the man. His tuning skills are second to none.

the last setup was a 2.4 6 bolt 7.7-1 pistons, no balance shafts and 6 bolt head. no other changes. I believe the 7 bolt stuff is better design than 6 bolt. so I did the worlds first 7 bolt swap.

I also tryed to prove stock 7 bolt studs are up to the task. Unfotunately the cas connector pooped off during tuning, this causes an RPM spike, leading to fuel/spark cut. alky still flows causing a MAJOR lean backfire. It made 525/490 on the stock studs. I believe they would have held more. They were not stretched when inspected. Head shows signs of lifting on all four cylinders near the exhaust side. I beleive the head wold have lifted on the arps as well

this is quite interesting to me, as i have a 2.4 7 bolt from a 93 expo, 2g head and a cyclone that i want to use. going for a torquey street in the 450-500 hp range with a 625 cfm turbo. this makes me realize it is entirely possible. quite well done sir! :D:hellyeah:

Yeah you can make your goal easy. I asked because I think I may take the title this week:rolleyes:

You're the man. I've been following your doings for quite a while now. You should make a write up on filling in the cyclone mani w/ epoxy. I have one in the garage I've been waiting to do that to.

Congrats on the numbers! I like what happens when a well thought out setup is put together.

nice to see that someone else ported a 2g head to a 1g, people been calling me crazy for doing that lately LOL

Well whoever called you crazy they don't have a clue the 2g head is a beast if you can find one!:thumb:

I always thought the thing with the 2g heads was it having better velocity and better valve angle because of the smaller ports and the 1g big ports were considered "lazy" so to say
I think the OP actually did whatever porting and epoxy work to accomodate the use of the cyclone intake since they have 1g port size

And my man you are dead on:thumb:
