Hey guys,

I went into Mark Mitsubishi today because I've been having issues with my automatic 2G DSM not shifting into 4th gear after a re-build tranny.

They did 1 hour of diagnosis for me, they said my vehicle 'has short circuit blowing the fuse to the overdrive switch'

They claim they need another 2 hours to find the short and perhaps even more after that to fix it I'd imagine.

What I have to ask is where are the shorts common on these cars & how difficult is it really to fix yourself?

Thanks!

If you need to ask, hate to tell you, DONT try and attempt to fix it yourself if you don't know what you doing...

Haha I agree I won't be fixing myself I'm not much of a mechanic, I'm just a researcher type. :p

I have friends who are slightly mechanically inclined and I was hoping to narrow it down.

Thank you for the speedy quick reply :)

I don't mean to pry, but my advice as a certified auto technician myself, would be have the dealer repair shop fix it... If you or your friends arent that mechanically inclined, and I don't mean oil change or brake jobs, I mean electrical faults and engine misfire mechanically inclined you guys might end up making it worse and still end up taking it to the dealer repair shop and fix what you guys couldnt corerctly diagnose and fix and it could end up costing you more down the road... Take my advice, as I do this for a living, leave to Caesar what belongs to Caesar...

question 1 . Not sure whats common on these cars.

question 2. The repair would more than likely be simple, it is finding it that is very difficult if you do not have the proper tools or experience.

If you do not have a good multi meter or a good understanding of basic electrics like reading a wiring diagram, checking available voltage and continuity, your best bet is to let a professional repair it.

I have a question too. Who did you have rebuild the trans?

I agree I will always have professionals do my work since I'm not too inclined. :)

Thanks for the reply I thought it would be a simple fix too once discovered.

I had Gorilla Transmissions re-build the trans, they are a local shop here in Phoenix, AZ not too professional I might add :notgood:

Also the mechanic at Mark Mitsubishi told me that the reason the SRS light is on is because of the TPS (throttle position sensor) I LOL'd kinda since I had replaced that part recently (4 - 6 months ago)

Here is a picture, can you guys let me know if you think it's BS?

My CEL threw up a code of P0123 and I found out it was TPS but it went away next time I started my car LOL?

For now my main goal is just to make the car SHIFT into fourth gear.

I personally cant justify their price for the task. but if you say you are not mechanically inclined then you have no choice. I would at least had asked them to show you how to replace that part so you can do it yourself but their labor cost is insane. Or consider taking it to another shop and ask them to beat their price, after all business is business.

Good luck.

If your not wanting to learn or try to fix it have them. But what was mentioned above ask to observe. I've been quoted 2 hours to replace a knock sensor on my partners Subaru when it was a 30 minute job. If you watch can control how much they charge for time. 1 hour minimum is flat charge then some shops do 15minute incriments after that.

Yeah everyone loves to make their money. I ended up resolving the problem, the Dealer provides good service and you can't really complain at the prices if you're not mechanically inclined.

That's good. As long as your happy with the service and work. Those are big things when deciding if happy with the price.
