Just a curious question i had. I just caught my front passenger side axle cv boot with a tear and grease is not starting to spit. My first thought was to replace it with a new one, and get it over with. Raxles seemed to be the shop to go to but he no longer carries axles for our cars because lack of cores. He told me no to trade in my OEM axle as a core because its probably worth more than the new one i am getting. So where do you guys get axles? Anyone have experience with Autozone, Pepboys etc axles?

Lastly, since i just caught this caught the tear in the boot, should i just replace it and throw in some more grease?

New cv axles don't require a core charge anymore to my knowledge
Just get one from advance, they come with a warranty so it's not like you can't just swap it out if something goes wrong with your current one

When I worked at Oreilly's we sold a ton of axles especially 4x4 axles for trucks and suvs due to the "rednecks" in our area. And to my knowledge we never had any issues with them, they held up fine to the use and abuse that a 4x4 rig can throw at it and so I dont see them being an issue for a DSM

Nice man! that is reassuring for sure.

I too worked at Oreilly and I personally had fitment issues with multiple axles that I pulled off the shelf myself. The splines wouldn't fit into the transmission and the wheel nut stub (for lack of better term) was always much longer than it needed to be. I tried with 3 different axles and each one had the same issues. I'm not saying all their axles are like this, but it was enough to make me give up with axles from oreillys.

The axles I have now are GSP from Advanced. They were fairly cheap and matched the OE axles to the T. Not to mention they have held up to numerous launches, typically leaving the line at 10psi and over 5k rpm.

I bought two GSP axles from Advanced for one of my 2g's and never had issues with it. I also bought an axle from O'Reillys for my WRX and have never had a problem with that either. Fitment was fine in both cases.

For AWD 2G's you need to rebuild the rear axles. As for the front I am currently running front axles from rockauto. I run these CARDONE Part # 663145 and # 663375

They are easy on the wallet and keep up with the beating I put on my car.
