Hey guys, I am about to put a 3" catback together, and had a few questions. So far I think I may be going with the Vibrant "stealth" 3" inlet, dual outlet muffler. But I was wondering, would it be quieter to use the Vibrant "ultra quiet resonator" and the Vibrant "stealth" muffler, or a vibrant stealth 3" inlet single outlet muffler as the resonator and then the vibrant dual outlet muffler on the end?

You guys have any other suggestions as far as quiet resonators?

Also, which high flow catalytic converter would you guys suggest? Vibrant? Magnaflow? ? ?

Why did you start a completely new thread about the exact same topic as the last thread you started? You asked all the same questions...

And people wonder why there is so much filler in the newbie forums... But I'll give you some advice. Since its unlikely that people are going to be running the exact combination of the 3 different parts you are inquiring about, most people run a full cat instead of fabricated pipe + muffler, and the answers you've gotten about this topic obviously haven't satisfied you, it might be a good idea to pick up the phone and call Vibrant. I've called them before about pipe and vband questions and they were very helpful. I'll even serve you hand to mouth: Their phone number is 905-564-2808.

Also, laser, I was actually really surprised about how quiet that was. You weren't kidding...that is the real stealth!

Well the other thread was more on exhaust size and design etc.
I didnt want to keep that thread going with a differant topic (this one, on actual products and not design and theory etc).

What can I use as a resonator that would really help quiet down the exhaust?

What would you guys recomend to use as my resonator to keep things quiet?
Vibrant "ultraquiet" resonator?
Vibrant "stealth" muffler?
Some other res/muf?

Im goin to run a 2.5 to 3" downpipe with 3" hfc welded in, and custom 3" mandrel cat back with the quietest resonator I can find and the quietest muffler I can find (seems to be the Vibrant "stealth" muffler)

Since you're so concerned with being quiet, remember you can run more than one resonator. A local DSMer has 48" total of resonator, and a similar muffler. At idle it's as quiet as stock and even wide open (FP green E85 400+whp) it wasn't very loud, just deep and smooth.

Exactly. Just run inline "bullet" resonators. I have one and a 4" outlet N1 muffler and it is still too loud for my taste. Maybe two bullets would be ideal.

Well Im hoping the "ultra quiet resonator" from Vibrant would be quieter than the typical "bullet" resonator (that they also have), or maybe using the 3" in, 3" out "stealth" muffler from Vibrant as the resonator?

Or maybe use one of their bullet resonators and one of their "ultra quiet" resonator and then their "stealth" muffler.

I'd just rather have (as an example...) 300hp and be kinda quiet instead of 315hp and be loud as @*#$%&*!

It would help if you at least indicated somewhere what kind of car you have. From your screen name I tend to conclule it is a '94 but FWD, AWD??

If it is a FWD then you can use round 3" in/out muffler(s) as resonator(s). They can easily be fitted in the driveshaft tunnel that is empty on a FWD car. On an AWD car it is more challenging and your only opition is a glass pack muffler/resonator. A muffler will do a better job of quieting things down than a resonator due to the volume of the can. Now what brand would be the quietest I 'm interested to hear myself. From what I had on my previous cars I can say that round single in&out Magnaflow muffler was quieter than a Dynamax brand. That's the only two I have firsthand experience with.

I had just my downpipe for a few days or a week..Put the test pipe in and now I'm not sure That was a g good idea..F being quiet,How fast we going in town, doing 25/7 lets just stay in 3rd. I could rather not deal with that crap.

I love my stealth Vibrant.
Sounds deep, not raspy what so ever.

I have a no name catback system from eBay with a catless downpipe. Its barely louder than factory. If you want stealth it works great. I wanted a cheap system that flowed well and would be louder, too bad this one is super quiet. It wasn't what I wanted. But it sounds like it'd work out great for you. http://www.ebay.com/itm/95-99-MITSUBISHI-ECLIPSE-GST-EAGLE-TALON-TURBO-CATBACK-EXHAUST-MUFFLER-SYSTEM-/150917148552?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AEclipse&hash=item23235cef88&vxp=mtr

The muffler is what determines most of the noise level, resonators get rid of some of that raspines and higher pitch noise and makes a deeper tone. I have had good luck with magnaflow mufflers, and these are the ones we use to build our stealth exhaust. Here in California a quiet exhaust is definitely a must, so that's what our exhaust reflect.
