All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

Whats wrong.

Thanks

The ECU won't do a damn thing without a signal from the CAS. The cold start sequence is by default to spray all four injectors. They should still pulse. Warm start pulses all 4 once, then all 4 again for a shorter duration, then starts to sequentially fire them. They don't batch fire. The engine either uses the cold start mode, or the warm start mode. A bad coolant temp sensor will not cause a car to not start. There is no crank sensor. The cam angle sensor controls everything.

I guarantee you this is incorrect.

^ For what's it's worth I agree with Mr. Colt. I've seen plenty of cases where the only thing wrong was a broken connection to the ECT sensor that kept the car from starting because the ECU proceeds to flood the engine thinking it's something like -39F outside and it needs to dump tons of fuel so some will atomize and ignite.

Well it was the CAS. Swapped it out and the car started. But for some reason link is reading 80% throttle without my foot on the gas. I checked the wiring for the q45 and it's correct. On this note I can't get the car to idle,

Anybody have a stab?

Got a new ECU and test it out, car started up and drives fine. seems like even tho i repaired the caps on my ecu, the board was still bad.

make sure to check if your getting spark, and fuel as long as the damage is toward the rear of the car there shouldn't be any damage done to the engine

try disconnecting th battery and then reconnecting it.. ive done the same thing in my gmc jimmy but it was a hard drop off a rock wall.. all the shock sensors took it as a collision so it shut the fuel pump off to prevent a fire.

I am having the same problem and i have read and keep reading with no luck so far. Im curious as to what has fixed others that has had the same problem.

yes very weird bc i have spark and fuel which mean the crank sensor is good just no injector pulse!

i did all of that and i found a vac leak. i repaired it and now it doesnt immediatley shut off but it still runs like crap. at idle it seems like it has a misfire and the throttle response sucks i also feel some sort of vibration after 2000 rpms what can i check ### i dont really have the money to replace ramdom stuff so i just need to know how to check stuff.

ill check out the fuel system and try the battery thing. ill look around for any switchs in the trunk. thanks guys.
