Im looking at the FP 71HTA and dont see much information on this turbo on a dsm. I searched. Anyone have this on their 2g with a dyno sheet? I want to see how fast this turbo spools and its capability.

Im looking to shoot somewhere close to 375-400 and looking for little more room to grow other than a evo/big 16. No tracking driving; just DD on the street and this will be on stock 7bolt.:hellyeah:

Evo 3 16g and a 20g are cheaper. You can even get a 20g and make it into a green turbo and get about the horsepower your looking for withouth spending $1000's.

My friend got a tdo6 20g with 8cm hotside with a bigger wheel and thats what you need for half the price of a hta71. I am sure JusMX can hook you up on something for your power range with great spool. There is really no magic to new technology in a turbo a turbo is a turbo. Just stuff a nice big wheel inside the 20g and pay half the price and you will get 400hp. Just saying other wize if money no biggy but it all fp turbos are beast..

FP turbo's are awesome. IIRC the 71 can flow 47lbs/min so you should be able to achieve your goal with relative ease using this turbo.
I can't wait to finally bolt on my HTA76! Forced Performance products are quality and every time I deal with them they are more than helpful. I personally am willing to pay extra for great customer service and awesome products. Support the vendors who still support the DSM platform.

Thanks guy, Im looking into my choice of turbo option. Any dyno sheet on the 71hta on a dsm?

I couldn't disagree more. A tdo6 20g is ANCIENT technology. This has a newer more modern billet wheel that is more efficient, which helps in two major areas. The air leaving the turbo isn't as hot, AND it takes less power to compress the air so that the turbine has to extract less power from the exhaust gas, so it presents less of a restriction. Now you don't need a lag city tdo6 and 8cm housing to flow enough, you can do it with a quick spooling td05h and 7cm.

If newer turbo tech wasn't really better, why wouldn't we all be running T04b compressors, with p trim turbines and on center housings straight out of the 70's.

Keep in mind your also getting a completely new turbo, not some body else's used turd thats got a couple new bushings in it.

Was just saying there are cheaper options to make that power goal.:p But yea if you spend $1000 on a turbo for that horsepower range it better be good.

Bastard - that's what came to my mind.
Clipto - saving as much money as I can is also considered. Im hoping the 71hta is as good as described!

The 71HTA hasn't been around long enough for people to start using them to their full potential.
The closest thing that you can compare it to is the HTA Green. It's got a bigger wheel, but it's better than comparing it to an old school 20g.

Ehh I wouldn't say that. The HTA Green has a 73mm wheel, a td06h4 turbine and is good for like 54lbs/min. While the 71hta runs tdo5h turbine, and it good for like 49lbs/min, pretty close to a 20g wheel.

True, but I was referring more to the newer technology.
i.e. billet wheel

According to FP the closest thing to it is the 68HTA and plenty of people have run that. Gofer runs a 68HTA and made over 400whp on E85.

I'm at work and looking at the brand new 71HTA that UPS dropped off today. I can't wait to see what this thing will do. Once I get my car going I'll post a log of my airflow numbers.

Have you installed this Turbo yet? I'm also stuck between three different turbos all for the same 400whp goal....the hta green...hta76 and hta71 I first want to see which of these will hit close to that number on 91oct...thanks in advance

I'm sure the OP realizes this, but when you start pushing 400-450+whp on an untouched 15 year old stock 7 bolt and stock manual trans, you need to be sure that your engine and pretty much the whole drivetrain is in decent shape first. Otherwise, you'll find the weakest link quickly.

This tidbit might come in usefull:
Michael could you please tell me the difference between the 76HTA and the 71HTA? Also what is the Difference in these and the FP old Skool RED? Im guessing the only thing different about the new RED is the Billet wheel? And what about the Green Vs RED?

71HTA is a smaller HTA wheel rated at 51LB min using a TD05H turbine wheel. Has a surge ported housing

76HTA is a larger HTA wheel rated at 59LB min using a 65MM Turbine Wheel. Does not have a surge ported housing

OS Red - Is a even larger CAST wheel rated at 65lb a min using a 67MM Turbine wheel. Has a surge ported housing.

Green - 73HTA Wheel, Surge Ported housing, 65MM Turbine wheel.

Red - 76HTA wheel, Surge Ported housing, 67MM Turbine wheel.

Not yet. Changing the head gasket, doing a battery relocation, and meth injection too right now so it will be a couple weeks before this things back on the road.

I know its been about 45 days since your last post, but I wanted to see if you have installed this Turbo or not.

I'm curious to see how you like it and get some feedback.
I hope everything is going well with the car :thumb:

Also anxious to hear how the 71hta performs. Im looking for a street turbo with minimal lag that will put me into high 11's on 93.

Car came with a hahn 16g that has yet to be tuned. Doubt that turbo will get me anywhere near 11's though.

EDIT: Since I posted this I have found that after reinstalling Windows and Link on my laptop I had forgotten to change the altitude in the display properties for the MAP sensor from the default of 0 to the correct value of 3,200 ft. This means the airflow I was seeing was not @ 19psi but @ 21psi which makes much more sense. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused. Also, the boost estimate preferences were still at 2.0L not 2.4L causing the BootEST displayed to be WAY off as well. After discovering this I don't trust the airflow numbers. I will do more logs with the change and see how things look. One thing that is certain, the increase to 82.4% IDC is real (was 76% idc max w/ 20g @ 24psi), my wideband readings are correct so the 71HTA makes quite a bit more flow compared to what my 20g did .. just not exactly sure how much at this time.

Wow!, that's great :rocks:

Those are awesome numbers for 18 psi and 50lbs of air is crazy.
My car is not a stroker like yours, but I run e85 so I think its going to work really well.

Happy to know you are happy with it.
How much higher do you want to boost once you have your meth/water ready?
