Hi everybody...

So I changed the clutch in my car thanks to a bro on Friday or Saturday, don't remember LOL... So my car kept dragging and sounded bad. So I went ahead and bought a clutch. After I changed the clutch I thought the noise would stop... :)

Unfortunately... :notgood:  :ohdamn: , the noise continued... my friend told me I should of went to him before we changed the clutch... He said the problem is my transmission... :nono:  :ohdamn: :notgood: :banghead: WTF :(

So at the moment... ....
1. I am considering rebuilding my transmission with the help of a few people.
2. Going to the junkyard on 50% off and getting a transmission.
3. Waiting about 1 1/2 month for more funds... Then maybe take to a shop to rebuild...
4. Try to buy a Transmission off a DSM part out that won't break my balls!

I know I would be taking a risk buying it off someone... as well as buying it from the junkyard...

I know the best choice would be to get it rebuild... But that kind of cash isn't the type I have at the moment...

Well donald i have a transmission arnie can buy from my black 2g eagle talon, and its perfect with no problms.. what should i sell it for ?

How good is your friend with trannys? Take it a part and see what it needs it might not be as bad as it sounds

Rebuild it man i bought an awd dsm tranny from junk yard and all the gears looked terrible. It worked but the gears had chunks missing! Or buy a shep tranny i recommend his trannys

I have about 300-400 at the moment until some people pay me back.
I am limited on funds. I also have to replace my control arm bushing. i might just buy after market control arms if its cheaper.
This is all the funds I have left until I get paid back by people or until I get my next financial aid. As I am a college student and I am not working. This car is my first, my baby, and my DD! Hope that clears a few things up!

My transmission is good at shifting and etc... I don't exactly remember what my friend said, but he may have said something was grinding? 1-3 it sounds like something is dragging and it's loud as hell. You can hear it accross the street.

I can't afford a shep tranny ):

Yeah if I go to the junkyard half off, I will be taking my uncle and his Friends. So tey can help me find a good one. Also get a warranty so I wouldn't worry about gears like you said later post. 30 day warranty, so if an issue occurs I may return it.

Well my Uncle used to work in a lot of part warehouses. So he got a field for getting parts cheap. He worked on cars a lot when he was younger and rebuilt several engines an trannys. His bestfriend worked in a dealership, his family has several mechanics, he learned a lot of expierence from them. So my uncle told him I was going to rebuild my tranny or buy another one. He said he would help rebuild it since he's done that so many times or go with my uncle, me, and his brother to the yard to find a tranny. I have seen a lot of eclipses at the yard and they look good to me. Just rear damage. So might go to the yard in 2 weeks and get one.

If yours is in good condition and offer a good price that won't break the rest of the funds I will gladly buy it! :dsm:

Sorry bro 500 is out of my budget! :(

Guy parting out his talon wanted 350 and I had to refuse. Guess I am going to go to the junkyard 50% off day.

or check my tranny and see what needs to be replaced.:cry: then rebuild it... Just gotta find a kit after I check what needs to be replaced... or just fix it all...

Thanks...

Arnie if your peoples know their stuff & are willing to help you & that car is your daily I say rebuild it. Pull the one you have out. Have your uncle crack it open & see what gears and/or synchros you need, purchased one from the junk yard. take whats good from that & replace whats bad in the one you have. Personally, mine would've cost me over $2000 for a stock rebuild. I was blessed with a TRE Transmission stage 1.5 rebuild for $1100. 5 hours later the timing belt snapped LOL... I'm like DAM!!!

hahaha Damn that sucks!!! :notgood:
Random thing is, I also have to replace my timing belt. I already have it, I am planning on installing my timing belt and water pump tomorrow. Another time I will insert my Head gasket set. :)

Focusing on my Transmission and Control arm bushings at the moment.
I appreciate your feedback, past experience, and your opinion! :dsm:

Thanks Blue I just called my Uncle and asked him to look up a kit to rebuild. He will be calling me shortly after calling his friend at a transmission shop.

A rebuild kit will do as well. At least you beat the cost of labor :thumb:. maybe you can help me with my timing belt. I have all the belts thats needed. Right now im just going to buy another head with everything in it. The head has 51,000 miles on it and a new exhaust manifold & a used 2g intake manifold. hopefully, I can get it back running

I'm gonna send you a Pm!

Ok so I found a transmission for 250$ with a warranty...
I changed my clutch because I thought it was dragging. Turns out the clutch wasn't the problem.
The noise sounds like something is hitting the floor/dragging...
After me and Blinky changed the clutch, we moved the car and the noise was still there. He told me the problem wasn't the clutch, it was the transmission.

What do you guys think it may be? or Should I just get another transmission and rebuild this one when I get more funds?

Opinions and thoughts very much appreciated! Please don't flame me.

I learned the clutch can be a starting point. If its installed wrong it could definitly mess things up. I still say replace and/or rebuild. You got a new clutch installed. You don't want to mess it up with a bad transmission. Install the transmission you came up on. Keep the one you already have & rebuild that into something decent & worth having. The one you got for $250 might not last as long as you would like it to so GET READY:thumb:

www.neons.org • View topic - It's not the TB or the slinger... the scrapping noise solved
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/420a-drivetrain-tech/424203-noise-trans.html
As I always google threads on here I came upon this

" On the ends of the cast forks Chrysler installed plastic inserts. After 100k miles or so the plastic wore away allowing the fork to rattle and grind against the slider. Thus making the grinding and scrapping noise I was hearing. I'm not sure what would have made these wear out faster than others. As I have owned transmissions in the past with over 200k on them that were quiet. It might be a low fluid issue allowing the plastic to overheat. Another theory would be too many 7k rpm shifts. Also there is the fact that some people like to rest their hands on the shifter while driving thus always applying pressure to the fork. After installing 2 new shift forks a new 5th gear assy., and diff. saver tabs. I put it back into the car and perfect. No noise whatsoever and 5th gear works again.

So possibly nothing is wrong with my transmission, I may just have to replace a few things when I rebuild in the future.

Yeah most definitely. I am gonna go look at the transmission with my Uncle and his 2 friends to make sure that it is in good shape. I will use the Tranny as a " Replacement " until I have funds to rebuild in a few months.

We installed the clutch fine, it was already put together as 1 by SLC, all we had to do was just mount it up :p .

I plan on doing exactly what you just typed LOL

1.Replace my current one.
2. Save old one and wait til I have more funds in future.
3. Rebuild it at Uncle's friend shop.

Future plans indeed! :D

Thanks for the support bro :dsm: Hope your car gets running soon!

I decided to wait a month then rebuild my transmission! No point in having another transmission laying around the house. I'll fix my current one when I get more funds! :dsm: thanks for the help and support fellow DSM'ers :dsm:
