I just picked up a 97 gst wit a 6 bolt swap. Currently has 650 FIC injectors.
Some people have told me those are tooooo small for my setup.
How do I determine if my injectors are too small?

Well based off your profile it says you're stock... If this is true those are huge

Sorry guys looks like I have some updating to do. This is a new car Not my last 93 tsi.
I would assume if I list the mods you guys could send me in the right direction?

Precision 6262 turbo
Obx tubular headers
Intake, hard piping to a FMIC
Tial 44mm external waste gate
Full turbo back exhaust
Walbro 255 fuel pump(?)

I was told it was tuned with Dsm link. Pulls pretty good.. CEL comes on SOMETIMES under boost.
I let off when I see it. Not sure if it's a "knock" issue or what.
Again, new to the Dsm world.

So all bolt on mods.Nothing internal..Yeah you could go 800's if you wanted..But I see no tuning device..So I'm not sure why the car is still running. And a 255 pump and no afpr.

The cel comes on when the ecu sees knock..It has been converted toa knock sensor. Look for the red dsmlink chip in the ecu..Otherwise it will be a black tuned chip..

Or another option would be black ecu,and tuned on that.

Pull your ecu out and see if it has Dsm link or a chipped ecu. Most chips will change the cel to light up when knock is detected.

And it depends on how much boost your running on that turbo. If your running more than 10-12 psi it's Prly overdriving those injectors

I'll have to check the ecu. I was told its a 98' flashable ecu.
It's on 20psi right now. As far as internals Im not aware of any. "rebuilt" head and "6xxx" miles on rebuilt block. Bought the car used.

If the ecu is a black flashable ecu it was not tuned on dsmlink.FYI

Yep if its a flashable ecu the case will be black plastic..A normal case is kinda brass-ish..If it's the black plastic one, thats 98-99 flashable ecu.

The regular hard case, you will have to open up..And look for a chip on a socket in the bottom right corner.

I'll look tomorrow morning and see what chip is in there.
I myself don't have dsm link. Is that something I should look into?
They might have just been using "flashable ECU" as a generic term. I do that when I talk about ECMLink to a non DSMer.

If your car was tuned with DSMLink, then you do have DSMLink in your car. You might not have DSMlink on your laptop, but that's just the GUI program. Check the chip and the cable in the car. 2Gs have a specific DSMlink V2 cable. I'm not sure about V3. You also want to know if you have V2 (DSMLink) or V3 (ECMLink). Same company, much more advanced version of their chip.

Here are the downloads on their website for getting the latest version of their software. ECMTuning, Inc.

Here is what to look for in the ECU and for the cable. http://www.ecmtuning.com/wiki/CounterfeitCopies

You will also want to contact them and transfer Link into your name so you have access to their forum.

And to answer your original question. If you have DSMLink and install the program and datalog a 3rd gear pull you can upload it and we can check it out. If your Injector Duty Cycle goes above 80% then it is time to start looking into larger inj, especially if you plan on turning up the boost. I have run up to 100% IDC, but its not recommended and can be a big issue if you are running high boost and on the ragged edge of a tune and have a fuel supply glitch.

Double post FTW.

yea, a 6262 is a horse of a turbo. Def want link and minimum 1000cc injectors(if on pump) and 1650s or bigger on e85. Thats a very nice turbo. Its capable of wrecking your engine very quickly without a tune tho.

Thanks for all the replies. I just got off work and I'm ready To go
Find my ecu. I'll post what I find when I locate it.
Car has two step/launch control. Is that a dead giveaway it was tuned
With dsmlink?

After many cus words and some "search button" abuse
I finally got the ecu out. It's a black plastic case.
Doesn't look like anything special. 4 plugs going into it.
Is this a bad find?
