Hey friends. I know this is a bit of a nooblet question but Im kinda hitting a brick wall here.

I have an ERL cast stainless exhaust manifold and im running a holset H1C. This is like the 4 time my bolts have backed out. It doesnt seem to matter how much I tighten them. Im going to buy a stainless gasket tonight cause im tired of burning up the thing ones. It doesnt do it all the time just randomly. I have driven it six months and then it will just do it out of the blue. I am running just standard grade 8 bolts with lock washers. I have read horrible reviews on the ARP bolts and I have never known it to be a good idea to run stainless bolts to a stainless thread which is what the ERL is made of.

Any suggestions. I have read to locktite but I would think it would just burn out from the insanely high turbo temps.

Im driving this thing everyday right now untill I get something else for a winter beater so any help would be awesome.

I had this SAME problem with my GT4.

Bolts where always backing out. I tried a few different styles/grades.

What finally worked was some industrial grade lock grease for high temp applications. My buddy works at GE in the locomotive department and brought a very small tube home for me. Ill see if I can get a brand name for you or something.

You could also try the two-per-bolt OEM "spring loaded" washers that keep the stock mani to turbo bolts tight.

Stud it....they'll never come loose again. ;)

Also, those shitty hardware store split-ring lock washers don't do anything on a high-temp application. The first time they see heat they'll lose their spring tension entirely. You're better to use these, as suggested by Wes, if you can find them in the correct size:

And... for completeness in this thread if you do find them in the right size you should post a link to them here. :)

I just used the washers, because at the time the boltsweren't available.
Give them a call and see if the bolts can withstand some heat, if not get only the washers.GL.
Get some extra, cause when you rempve them, might want.put new ones.

I use nord-lock washers and studded my turbo and have not had them come loose one bit in the past three years since I did it.

Thanks for all the replys. I ended up using two studs on the rear with high grade lock washers and two bolts in the front and a steel plate gasket. This must of been going on for a while because I have noticed an increased rate of spool up along with lower rpm blow offs. If this doesnt work Ill stud the front as well. I need to run it hard but there is no consistency for when they back out. Its been at least six months since it happend. If it doesnt pan out well Ill order the Nord-lock washers ( I feel like this is an item Id find in Skyrim right next to the dwemer cogs).

To answer the previous post I do have a flex section but its incorporated with my ghetto fabulous downpipe I had to cut and weld to fit my car, not my best work but this thing is made of pot metal. So as soon as I get a welder I will be making a new downpipe that lines up better. I feel this one is putting tenion on the turbo that I dont need.

I never had any problems with bolts backing out using a thick SS T3 gasket from extremepsi. But I also didn't get to put too many miles on it.
