I've been overheating BAD. I've been logging temps of up to 225* on days that are 85-95*. Radiator is a Mizu unit with eBay fans, yes I know.
New OEM unit is on its way as well as OEM fans are waiting to go back on.
I remembered that ECMlink can control the fans, so last night I turned them to ON at all times, today on my way to school I logged a tremendous drop...185-190* cruising on the freeway with ambient temps of around 90-95*. It did however climb to 220* going up the Conejo Grade which is 6.5% inclined(Google). On the way down however is quickly dropped to 190ish* again. During stop and go traffic it doesn't pass 200*.

Now my question, is it ok to have the fans ON at all times? I know the eBay fans probably won't last long this way as the motor might fry, but what about the OEM fans? Is it UN-healthy for my alternator or battery?

Thanks.

Its just going to reduce the life of the fans. Like having anything running constantly, that is just simple science. Telling you right now that the ebay fans probably aren't pulling enough air. Low rated CFM I bet. I was experiencing high temps as well & had to resort to the full time fans option. Running ebay radiator & ebay slim fans as well. I just can't drop the nickel for JUST fans.

Yeah the ebay fans really dont flow much at all and most run them all the time. Once you switch back to the oem fans your overheating problems will go away. The oem fans are just so much better. For tight spaces you can also run 2 a/c fans with the stock radiator which is still flowing around 3000 cfm combined. Not even a good set of FAL fans can flow that much.

I think that the only bad thing with having them running all the time would be when you it comes to warming the car up in the morning. That would only really be an issue when the temp drops though.

I did the both fans on all the time mod, and so far i love it, no problems at all. I expect the fans the die at some point but i think I paid $25 per fan, dual 12" eletric. Blows out the turbo and mani fold heat which is constant as well.

fans don't need to run all the time . put your oem fans in and see how she runs . if she still overheats then find the problem . fans are mostly for when you are in traffic or for the a/c condenser .

Yep, 2g's can offset the coolant temp. Which will trick the fans into only coming on when you hit a certain coolant temp. I took the time to play with this, and forgot mine are actually doing that as well. Only run full time when the temp is too high :thumb:

The issue with using the coolant offset though is that if your running with a offset of 10 and the coolant temp is 200 degrees, the ecu "thinks" its at 210 which means it will start to pull timing in the upper rpms.

Yeah, first I'm going to install them and let them cycle normally without having to have them on at all times. My problem is airflow path. I'm not willing to make a hole in my bumper over having the fans on
At all times.

Alot of people run a manual switch that way your car can warm up properly and then run the fans after it is done warming up.

I know my car will idle way down if the fans run when it's not wormed up. But allot of that has to do with my specific set up. 280 duration cams and big tb/intake mani blah blah. I think I need a better amp output alternator to help with the voltage drop at idle.

I also was overheating with ebay slim fans and a fluidyne radiator. I just went back to stock radiator and flex a light 1250cfm fans (pushers) and it the warmest it has gotten is 208 when I was really beating on it. Compared to the 225 it would get to before,.

Good stuff.
Welp, apparently Mitsubishi has discontinued the selling of the radiator.
I refuse to use any other 'OE' quality replacements.
After some looking around, I ended up ordering a Mishimoto X-line radiator which offers 3row core over the standard 2row aluminum radiators. That along with OEM fans should definitely help with this issue.

Going to be a tight fit if it does. Think they were made them to fit stock turbo clearances.

The FP manifold doesn't place the turbo way off from the factory location, if there's even any displacement.
If there is a problem, I'll just trim the fans.

Is not a bad Idea to run fans full time, But, when its below target temperature, the fans are worthless, because they are not doing anything but cooling more.

I used to have this same problem as the OP, I was using Ebay slim fans and they burn out after 3 months of use, I replaced them with some mishimoto and still over heating, then I swap my 2ga bumper with a 2gb, did a nice air duct, install the 10" fans in front as pushers and swap the Lines from the ECU to trigger both fans when the temperature hits its target and I havn't had any isues since then.

The ECU has 2 lines, one trigers only 1 Low Fan (normal temperature ), and the other line trigers all fans (when gets hotter), So all what I did was to swap the lines, so now, when the temperature hits its normal target, the ECU trigers all fans, This way is like having all fans ON only when you need it.

I being runing my set up with only 2 10" slim fans between my condenser and Intercooler as pushers and not Shrouded, Some times (rare)I get 218, 220, But for just having 2 10" slim fans only with out shrouded, I think it is good proof that the system works.

Hope this info helps.

So after installing a 3 row radiator and the OEM fans along with having them running at the same time, temperature won't pass from 170*.
BUT, now the thing is that the fans WON'T come on by themselves unless I purposely trigger them to run at all times :/
The eBay slim fans would come on normally at a certain temperature but these fans don't :/
I only switched radiators and fans...any ideas?

Before I triggered the fans to kick on, it creeped all the way to 210* just idling.
That's when I triggered the fans via link and it quickly dropped to 160ish*.
