So i am thinking about getting a pacesetter exhaust for my 97 avenger and i want headers at the same time. the headers will either be megan or pacesetter. i was just wondering your opinion. which would you recommend?

Then what would you guys suggest? i'm assuming megan headers but what about exhaust. remember its for a 420a nt

headers plurl are for like V6 and V8, a inline has a header. and since its for a 420a NON TURBO in my opinion any 'ol ebay header will work. they're all eventually gonna crack. what the hell right?

Any eBay style one will do. However, opt for one that has flanges that connect the down pipe to the header instead of a slip fit. Slip fits normally leak.

Do ebay parts really hold up? thats all that i'm worried about. i would rather know the exact material my part is being made from

honestly the only real live name brand header i can think of for a 420a is a GREDDY header. and as we ALL know greddy parts are not cheap. 420 isnt gonna belch out a ton of power so the few lil bolt ons you do decide to do, i honestly wouldnt worry abouy quality or name brand to much.

unless your gonna take your 420a serious and do some all motor magic. but even then that would require a custom one off built header.... just find a ebay header from a seller that has good reutation. you'll be fine

get any header you want and do a header wrap on it,

I have a 4-2-1 Pacesetter titanium wrapped and after 3 years I just say that they are not the best and not the worst (in my profile you can see some pictures of that)

if you can, better put some money in a hi-flow cat, you will get better gains out of that if you compare to the gains you will get from a expensive headers with a brand stamped on them (lets think in a $/HP relation)

in conclusion (and my opinion)

1. get any header you want (eBay would be just fine),

2. get a header wrap

3. install a hi-flow cat or test pipe (if you don't have to worry about emissions)

4. add any 2.5" cat-back (the difference between brands is the sound)

and believe me that you and your car would be very happy

I have DC 4-2-1 Header and I love it, but then again i would say for the cost, it wont be worth it to most people.

Pacesetter's are garbage for the most part. I have experience with them in the Pontiac world, and they were made out of the thinnest mild steel I have ever seen. They are notorious for rusting out, and even rusting after being treated. However, some of their "monza" cat back line was actually pretty decent believe it or not.

I think it's a matter of you get what you pay for here.. For the OP's car, any brand sold on eBay should be sufficient (OBX, Pacesetter, etc.). I have experience with a Pacesetter on one of my 1g's. It was installed along with the 3076r and performed fine. The car ran mid 11's, trapping close to 130mph. I've since switched to a 6262cea with a JMF manifold ($800+), but I am going to run the 3076r on my new 1g with the same Pacesetter manifold. If you don't set your expectations of a cheap part high you won't be let down when it fails. As far some of the people saying they suck, I would say to you please re-evaluate your opinion of some parts. As far as flow and transition, the manifold is quite good, as far as craftsmanship it's good, as far as materials it's made from, well that's where they can make serious improvements. These manifold's aren't designed to last a lifetime, hell the thing only weighs about 3 +/- pounds compared to the 10-12 +/- that my JMF manifold weighs.

Ive had the OBX header on my eclipse for going on 2 years with no cracks or rust, seem like an okay header for the price. no complaints.

i agree with obx since i have had one for over a year with no issues. i have obx header and type r exhaust on my built motor which runs pretty hot (engine bay temps) since im in arizona. no cracks or problems with putting it on. header, downpipe and full exhaust for $550. a greddy header alone is over 400 bucks. as for the ebay ones it all can vary, some last some dont. my car sounds perfect just like i wanted it to, pretty happy with it even tho some people hate on obx LOL.

i had a OBX "turbo header" style exhaust mannifold. cut the original wategate flange off and welded on a new one. i rocked that OBX turbo exhaust mannifold for almost 2years before i got a custom built mannifold. but that OBX peice never cracked or warped. and that was holding up the weight of a HX40. in my opinion of all the brands out there OBX is a medium grade of aftermarket parts, but a pretty damn good brand actually. there not full blown ultra expensive but there not "ebay" cheap either. theyre right there in the middle. OBX is ok. Hell, the 4" intercooler on my car is OBX...
