I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

Depending on what sort of shape it's in and where you're at, I'd say 4-6k might not be a bad price.

what do you guys think about this: 1995 Eclipse GSX $7000 OBO

I really want to get into the dsm game, the owner said the only spot where rust is, is on the left strut tower but it is just surface rust. It was never dynoed but tuned and estimated at 350-400awhp, owned it for 1.5 years.

I honesty think that's to much... But its just me... Other people difference opinions / thoughts...

I'd try CRAIGLIST for a GS-T / GSX for 1-3k

I agree. I wouldn't say it's a bad deal for $7,000, but you should be able to get it for 6 pretty easy. Use 7 as a starting point. Ask for 5500. You should be able to get him down to at least 6.5, if not 6 outright. Cash speaks, and be sure to mention "You could be done with in in an hour", as that often has a lot of staying power.

He seems like an honest guy. He's not trying to pass it off as a 1999, just that it was converted. Check his work and his receipts, and if everything looks good, you could have a sweet DSM.

Hey all. I have a '91 Talon TSI AWD I am considering getting rid of, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I bought it from New York, USA, and there have been some rust issues with it. The gas tank was completely rusted through, as were the brake lines. I have a new gas tank for it, which needs to be installed. I also have brake lines, but they need to be bent into shape. It hasn't been moved or started in almost two years, which I am thinking could be an issue. Do you guys think it would be sellable?

Q:Can you try sell an old pair of shoes?
A:Sure, but...

Q:Just because you have something for sale, does that mean someone will buy it?
A:Not likely.

Q:Will your ability to a.) sell the car b.) at a certain amount be impacted by the amount of rust and repairs you have performed?
A: Absolutely

Q:Should this be posted in The Hangout?
A:Most definitely.

[/thread]

Yes, but depends on how much more rust is there. May not get the rediculous asking prices of what others ask for a DSM though.

Personally I find it hard to pay 3-3.5k or more on a 1g dsm that's stock and running. Some up here have a 1g that's been sitting for 2 years and was running when it was parked and ask 2.5k+ for it. If it's running you have proof of maintence and parts (reciepts) and it looks decent you could get a decent price.

But heck you can get what someone will pay for it.

It's sellable in my book just what are you expecting to get for it?

I'm not expecting much at all, especially given the fact that if there is a buyer, they are going to have to put work into it. And then throwing in the fact that it has been started for awhile, I wouldn't ask anywhere near even $2.5k. I'm not sure how much to ask for though. Hahaha

If it's going to need a lot of work we all know that we put more into these cars then they're worth. But when it comes to selling a car with work needed asking what you could get in parts (shell, interior, engine, suspension, drivetrain) is a resonable price.

It's when it's driving, good condition, and minimal work needed do you ask more then what the "stock" parts are worth.

thinking about selling my talon and getting a 240sx a guy offered me 1k for my 95 NA talon with 200k should i ask for more or take it ?

Hey guys, I'm in the market for another DSM and just wanted to know what you guys think about this Talon that I found. It's really hard to find a white one around here but my main concern is the km. It's got 300 000km on it which works out to roughly 187 000 miles. Let me know what you think guys, ad is below.

Mods
- Big 16G
- Yonaka FMIC
- Knock-off Greddy BOV
- FIC 850cc Injectors w/ Keydiver Chip
- Rewired Walbro 190
- Aeromotive AFPR
- Voodoo III MBC
- Jaime Loo 3" Downpipe
- Magnaflow 3" Cat
- Vibrant 3" Cat-back
- UHMW Intake Heat Barrier Gasket
- Home Made CAI (AEM Dry Flow where Fog Lamp goes)
- Exedy Stage 2 3 Puck clutch w/ buttons
- Fidanza Flywheel
- Prothane Engine Mounts
- Vibrant front and rear strut tower bar
- KYB AGX w/ Eibach Prokit
- Datalogger

Probably some more I can't remember...

GOOD
Front spindle, lower control arms (curved and straight), front wheel bearings have all been replaced w/ about 30k km on them.
Pass side strut tower welded (repaired) w/ almost no rust
Driver side strut tower mint
Minimal exterior rust
NORMAL amount of rust underneath
Floor is MINT under the car
Oil change every 2500km
All other fluids changed once a year
Timing belt/balance shaft belt/water pump less than 15k km.

BAD
Pass rear wheel bearing making tons of sound but no play (OEM Mitsu hub/bearing assembly included with car, too lazy to install)
Rad support has rust
DSM window rattle
Got backed into twice now, front bumper cover is done for if looked at closely
Car is at 300k w/ original engine (180, 170, 165, 180)
Original Transmission (shifts decently still)
NEEDS A PAINTJOB
A/C DELETED
Driver door has a nice dent in it (spare door from white '95 TSi AWD included)

Probably more to think of, as for electronics, only things that don't work is rear washer nozzle doesn't spray and cruise control does not work (harness clip broken so I left it unhooked)

Will come with all extra parts (coil pack, igniter, spare MAF, pullies, etc)

Looking for $3500 (etested, safety pending on how UN-lazy I get)

It's been my DD for the past 5 years, owned it from 174k km to 30Xk km.

If you got the time and money to put into but it sounds like a headache just because he's giving you all the parts to go with he said daily driver? I wouldn't daily drive something making noise how long has it been it might have gotten worse but if your willing to put in the time 3500 is a bit much

I'm actually getting it for much less than that. 2500 to be exact, but I really was planning on daily driving it. Apparently it hasn't been making noise for very long and it just needs to be replaced, one of my major concerns though is the compression test results for this motor. Apparently it hasn't been rebuilt or anything so why is the compression so high? And what kinds of things do you guys suggest I look over when I go to see this car?

Edit: Better question, what kind of money would I be looking at to get this thing running reliably? What should I be looking at doing or replacing? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to figure out if this one is worth my time and money.

187k, needing all that work for $2500?

I wouldn't spend a dime more than $1500 on it...maybe.

What work? So it needs some body panels and a rear wheel bearing? Not a huge deal. I would consider it for 2500 but that's only my opinion. If hes got all the parts its not like you have to dump money into it (if you are mechanically inclined).

Yeah I'm not too bad with mechanics, went to school for it, I'm just not too familiar with these vehicles which is why I felt that I should get an opinion from you guys. Also you have to keep in mind, these cars go for a bit more down here, not sure what it is but its next to impossible to get a cheap AWD DSM here in Ontario.

1995 Eclipse GS-T for $1600. I guess I'm not asking if I should buy it or not, but what do you guys think? (p.s. I already bought it LOL)

1995 Eclipse GS-T
-original color seems to be a shade of green??? Currently painted white.
-123k on the body
-unknown miles on the motor but it looks as if somebody had either done a swap at one point or had done work on it because there are a few cables/hoses not attached. ex. A/C
no battery and for some reason it doesn't start. it turns over and fires but doesn't actually fire all cyclinders and start up.
-only body damage is two scrapes on the rear driver side panel.
-Missing the stock spoiler....failed attempt at filling the holes as the paint is starting to push through.
-excellent interior
-tranny "feels" very very plush and smooth
-97-99 front end swap, Aftermarket headlight units
-both door handles broke off, comes with new white ones.
-mismatched rims. the 16's on the front and the 14's on the back, meh rubber on them.
-rust spots and small hole in the body under the hood by the springs. (that's common I hear?)

sorry for the bad pictures, was in a hurry and it was late at night.

EDIT: So I looked at both cars plus a third one. One was good, the other bad, and the other just plain ugly :barf: All of them were $3500 and awd. It seems like if you're looking for a turn-key project that will require minimal work, $3k is fair.

I mean, if I buy a car for $500-$1000, I'll probably have to drop another $1000 or so to get running right, then factor in the upgrades, you're easily at $3k in a few months anyway. If you have the cash, you might as well just get a running car with some upgrades in place already.

Depends on what you're looking for though, right? Anyone have any thoughts????

This looks liek the right place to post this question. I've been looking at awd DSMs that I can turn into a modestly tuned drag car that is still streetable. These two kind of jumped out at me.

This one looks decent, but my neighbor (who owns three DSMs) says that it's missing a fuel pump and fuel regulator system. IS this a big deal or no?
1991 Eagle Talon tsi AWD Turbo Low miles

This car has a built bottom end and the 6/4 combo (I understand that's mroe desirable) but a stock trans.
1992 eagle talon tsi awd

I'm coming from a 1991 turbo MR2 that I lost a while back (just have a minivan right now :ohdamn:) and unless it's an emergency I never go to a mechanic. I just fon't know the DSMs too well, but I like my neighbor's car a lot.

So are these cars wotrth the asking price and which would you go with? Any help is appreciated!!
