ok thanx for the info . another question. is that platform that the motor mount bolts on to part of the engine block or does it detach from the block so i can take it out and work on it ?

well i blame the mechanic that installed my engine. the mount has teh two bolts stuck in it and it looks like he didnt even bother putting a third bolt in i hope nothing else was damaged. it sounded like my exhaust may have a crack in it now from the engine laying on its side while driving. i just hope those bolts come out easy enough

attached unfortunately.

The mount bracket definetly un bolts from the block, there are 3 bolts and one stud that hold it on. The timing belt will have to come off than it will unbolt.

I'd be willing to bet that you have another bad mount somewhere if those snapped like that. Even without the 3rd bolt they should never snap like that. As for getting them out, it will be kind of a pain in the ass to get them out. They are usually threaded in there pretty good. I would drill a hole in them, heat the mount up until it is glowing red than try to back them out with an easy out.

Those bolts are fairly hard. Go for HSS or cobalt bits. Probly 1/4" or a shade bigger. Start the hole with a 1/8" bit then finish with the 1/4", then use your ez out. If this does not work youll have to drill them out all the way and retap the holes.

These teck screws or self tappers work really well for drilling through bolts, Made for hard steel don't break like bits, they drill through fast. at the very least you'll get a good pilot started without going through half a dozen bits

ok so i gave it a shot and it didnt turn out well at all. i center punched as best as i could then i tried to drill and put a puller in there but the drill went sideways and nothing came our right. so now i have the front hole all the way through so now i have to even out the hole so i can try and rethread it. does anyone know what i need to burr away the rest of the metal to make the hole even? i assume i need a dremel but dont know what kind of tip i need to grind the metal away.

after this i think im done with this car. it just needs too much attention . ill give it another week or so of me trying to get this mount assembled then its going up for trade.

i hate easy outs. if the bolt was cross threaded or bent or rusted the easy out will never get it out. if the bolt was not cross threaded or bent or rusted, well then it would not have broken off. drill it a hair under the size the bolt is then slowly run a tap through it and it will get the rest of the crap out. will take 1/4th the time of fighting with an ez out.

You can always find another mount bracket.

geh, guess im too late. at that point just go up on your drill bit and kind of fight it through and try and straighten the whole out a lil more with each size. if you started with a very small bit the try and get another whole started next to it and work some more of the metal out that way.

when youve got a couple wholes or some of the metal out of the way just find taps that will filt in the wholes in the bolt, as you run taps through they will actually break up more of the old bolt.

then you can finish tap the orginal threads if its not too bad or drill and over size it 1 size if its way messed up.

my problem is that the circle the bit made is crooked and i need to grind down the metal on the other side of the hole.

i would love to replace the mount bracket but it doesnt look possible without removing the engine to get it out

It's very possible to change without pulling the engine. Remove the timing cover, remove the timing belt, unbolt it from the block, bolt a new one on and put everything back together. This would of never happened if it was put together correct the first time.

I would heat it up really good and use a good left had drill bit. They do wonders for broken bolts. In case your wondering a left hand drill bit and a easy out are different. I got a couple people confused with it before.

ok why do i have to remove the belt?
the belt is skinny, is there a bolt behind it?

I had the same problem. I removed the mount from the engine, then I built up a bead on top of the broken stud with a mig welder, then I welded a bolt to the bead and used a ratchet to take it out. Came out easy. I originally tried to drill it out but the drill just kept sliding off the center punched dimple.
