96 gst, balance shaft delete, rebuilt motor , automatic. When i put the car in park, the oil pressure is at 10. When i put it in reverse or drive it goes down to 5. The pressure kicks right up as soon as you hit the gas. Im using an autometer mechanical gauge to verify the pressure. Any reason it would kick so low when idling in gear?
 
Check your oil pickup tube gasket, it could be on backwards, choking the oil. Most 2gs have very low oil pressure for some reason, but with a rebuilt engine I would defiantly check all possibility's. A balance shaft delete usually ups the oil pressure. Did you remove the bearings and block the oil passages on the balance shaft by offsetting the bearings?

Review that procedure and make sure you did the balance shaft removal by the book.
 
Yesterday the stock gauge read fine and today my wife took it for a drive an said when she was idling the oil pressure dropped real low and smelt like burning oil. I immediatly took it in the garage when i got home and changed sending units and it read the same at idle, lower than it did thebday before. I then hooked up the autometer gauge and its a steady 10 in park and about 5 in drive.
 
Do not crank it over, park it and call a tow truck and send it back. There is a VERY strong possibility that they did not remove the bearings to offset them (they are a bi*** to remove). If you choose to drive it or start it you could start a chain reaction, seizing the engine and destroying all your new shiny parts.

It is very hard to sue a mechanic, as they can point to the aftermarket parts you had them install, saying that they were not up to par. Very few places warranty work that have been done with aftermarket performance parts. Be polite but assertive with them and have them double check their work.

I didna balance shaft delete on my 6 bolt and the oil pressure was about the same. I removed both shafts and installed the bearings properly. I dont get it. Could it be because the motor has maybe 200 miles on it now and the rings arent seated yet?
 
The seating of the rings will only effect compression and emissions, due to not enough oil being scrapped off the cylinder walls, therefore burning the oil up and sending it out the tailpipe.
