I just bought my first car a 98 eclipse 420a and supposedly the person who I bought it from said he swapped the engine. The car has 178k and the engine supposedly has around 98k, is their anyway for me to tell if its the original engine or a swapped 1?

Maybe this can help you! or guide you in the right direction!!

Good luck!

Just above the transmission bell housing, on the engine block is where the vin is.

I have an automatic, those still have bell housing right?

If it's been swapped, the VIN on the engine won't be the same as the VIN on the car...

Yes I know, but I am having trouble locating it. Their are a lot of different numbers all over the engine block idk which ones the correct one.
