I need to replace my lower ball joints in the front end (all 4) and my front wheel bearings.

So, from Autozone I'm looking at like 5-600 bucks or some mess (Its been awhile since I priced it, but I remember the control arms were like 75 (straight) and 90 (curved) a piece back when I last checked, I used my parts cars for awhile to delay then inevitable due to lack of funds.

Now, looking on Ebay I find all 4 control arms for 125 and wheel bearings like 40ish a piece.

Anyone here tried any Ebay parts, are they good, or will they give out way early? If they are good I can go ahead and do the rear wheel bearings while I'm at it.

It would be nice if they are good, simply because I have to replace 3 of my tires as well (2 due to bad alignment, and 1 because it went down while I was out of town and damaged the belts in the tire, causing it to not hold air for more than 5 minutes >.> )and I enjoy not being broke LOL.

However if they are garbage then I guess the car will just have to sit for awhile til I get things sorted out.

I have personally bought Ebay parts. Not for my DSM but for another car, a 96 Saturn SL2. It was an EGR valve.

The main reason I bought it was the humongous price difference. 25 bucks on Ebay vs way over $100 at Autozone. This was in 2006. Looking back on it, all it did was hide a problem. The Ebay one actually had tiny carbon deposits but definelty wasnt as bad as the one i had to replace. A year later and the EGR valve s*** the bed.

You should always buy new parts, no matter what. Looks like it costs a ton right now, but with a lifetime warranty, it will pay for itself later.

It could be a good deal, it could be a bad one. Many of those parts are the same that autozone uses. but not all of the one's on ebay are from the same "re-manufacturer". some are plain garbage, or you might receive something that doesn't fit right, or you may get the perfect replacement part. the only thing that autozone has that eBay does not is the ability to return it if it does not fit, and autozone has a lifetime warranty on their reman parts.

the alternative to this, which I use frequently is a few visits to you local or rural junkyards. you get OEM parts, many untouched and in great condition, only crappy part is that you have to work to pull the part yourself (I enjoy that part). post a link of what you are looking at and we may give you an opinion on it a little better.

Just because they are ON eBay doesn't mean they are bad. The same parts (ie Moog brand) are OEM quality and can be found on both eBay as well as Rockauto.

I just purchased tie rods and tie rod ends, as well as lower ball joints on eBay (both Moog and Raybestos brand) for less than a quarter of what autozone and napa quoted for the SAME brands.

Rockauto has all you want for 313.29 shipped to you with our 5% discount

I only get parts off eBay if they are cheap name brand or recognized parts with manufacture warranties. OR parts that aren't offered with lifetime warranties from parts stores. A lot of suspension and steering components have 1 year warranties from the parts store and can be 2-6 times as expensive as eBay or amazon.com.

I'd rather get the eBay ones and have it last 2-3 years of normal driving. Most people that say they are crap may be right or didn't do their research on the seller. Or used and abused part, installed incorrectly, or forgot the few times they bashed it pretty bad.

Suspension is kind of important. You really don't want it to sit? What happens when you are sitting on the side of the road? Buying local part store parts I bet.

I've found if you get part numbers for stuff like MOOG if you go on amazon and search for it you can usually find the parts for quite a bit cheaper than advance. I know I bought some ball joints for my galant that I ended up not needing for around 25 a pop off there.

I bought a front suspension kit for a 98 avenger (same suspension as my eclipse) two years ago off eBay. It had upper control arms with balljoints, both lower arms with balljoints, inner and outer tie rods and stabilizer links. Two years and its all still holding up great. Was like $220 for the kit.

somewhat mixed response LOL.

Suspension importance - I know that's why I asked :p

As for which parts I havn't looked too deep, figured I'd ask and see what the verdict was before I looked too hard, I just went to ebay and typed "1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse lower ball joints" and "1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse front wheel bearing" Just too see what came up.

Price difference is fairly significant. So I came here for opinions.

And no, I really don't want it to sit. It sits too much already LOL. But if they are a waste of money it would be pointless.

For what its worth the car is essentially stock, non turbo. So its not like they will be under extreme power.

Im running ebay LCA's now(straight ones). No problems at all. I dont see them being made SO goddamn bad that they literally fall apart while driving. Cmon, the company wouldnt be in business. I will buy my next suspension arms from ebay too. Put the curved LCA's on my old eclipse and had no problems in 60k miles. DD too. About 1k miles a week on that car to be exact and they held up just fine.
Sometimes i think the "hear say' shit gets out of hand with some products.

As stated i would go to Rockauto that place is awsome!! Got valves for my 1g head and they was like $8 each vs autozone and others at $23 each saved a killing from them.

Ebay parts are great. If you do your research like everyone is saying. If you know what your doing and are good at working on your car, the ebay parts will be fine. Most people don't know how to even work on there car. So they go buy the cheapest parts they can find and install them wrong and then blame ebay. See it all the time.

Well that's not a problem, I've already had them off completely once (when I swapped them from my parts car) and I've had them partially off countless times while working on swapping the trans or engine out.

I mean, as for the control arms, they are pretty straight forward, kind of hard to mess up. The bearings I'm more hesitant about.

Ofcourse, I got my last one from NAPA, and its one of the ones that needs to be replaced, already. So it can't get too much worse LOL.

Ebay wheel bearings? You're out of your mind! 40 dollars a piece isn't even a good deal to begin with. I got wheel bearings about 2 weeks ago for 20 a piece, and that was from a local shop.

If you need this stuff badly, get on Rockauto.com. I buy EVERYTHING from that place if it's something I can wait on.

LOL, I wish I had your shops around here. There isn't a chance in hell I'm getting a wheel bearing for my car for 20 bucks.

Or ask yourself these questions: How many times do you want to do the same job over? How many times will you end up rebuying the same cheap garbage when you could have gotten a quality item in the first place? The chinese parts, like wheel bearings, are not held tot he same standards as a US made part. They typically will fail in under a year. I've warranted countless of them (the 1-yr warranty china-crap) in my auto store days.

For any Ebay product I've bought, other than stickers, I have had nothing but problems with. I would either get OEM or Moog.

Thanks for the responses fellas. Car's going to sit for awhile I think. I really hate for it to sit, but winters starting to set in so I guess it doesn't even matter.

I'll probably scoop non lifetime warrantied parts from Ebay, and get anything with lifetime at Autozone.

Edit : Or get the non warrantied at rockauto or where ever I find decent parts for the right price LOL. I'll have plenty of time to look I'm sure.
