Is there a trick/easier way to get it to line up?

I cant get the long bolt to line up to thread in the hole behind the motor mount on the chassis. I have a jack on the oil pan varying up and down to get it to line up but it seems i need the motor to move a little bit to the left to get the bolt in.

any tricks/help u guys can suggest to line this bastard up? Thanks

loosen the other motor mounts to give tuo some wiggle room and try not to use the oil pan as a jacking point. if you dent the oil pan bad things can happen.

I found it was easier to get the the mount onto the two motor bolts with the engine tipped up, then tipping the motor down a bit to get the chassis bolt to line up. Tighten the chassis bolt most of the way down first, then the two motor nuts, then tighten everything down to spec.

It's definitely easier to put the chassis bolt in if the mount is not tightened down to the motor, you can use a pry bar to help line it up too since the motor tends to sway a little when you remove the mount.

So I still can;t get the mount to line up. I need the motor to slide some to the left towards the passenger side. Can someone give me a step by step on what to loosen and how far to loosen to get the motor to slide some? Im completely lost here been at this for days, not trying to have my motor fall through because im loosening all the mounts too much.

Ok how the hell are you "tipping the motor" so much? Jacking it up and down doesnt help because I need the motor to move horizontal towards the left not vertical.

Grab onto it and give it a few good pulls. I had the same problem recently. A few good tugs should line it back up.

Moving the motor up and down may shift it to a more workable angle. Just keep moving it around. Go up, down, and pull on it like you mean it. It'll line up.

-Just don't grab onto something you could damage like the power steering pump or timing belt cover. Try to grab onto the motor itself, valve cover would probably be okay.

Tried that with 3 ppl. Doesnt move enough. There has to be something im missing. Something I can loosen a ton to make this as simple as ppl make it seem. I really dont get how the hell this could be more difficult then dropping the trans for a clutch job or changing and timing a t-belt. Its ridiculous.

Was this with 3 girls by chance?

I've had trouble with this before as well, I found the easiest solution was to use multiple jacks under the engine which will allow you to angle the engine into the exact position you are looking for.

Oh and yes it will help to just move the jacks even if you are trying to get horizontal movement out of it, give it a try.

Ah thanks for the post buddy, was very helpful keep at it.

Multiple jacks, ok let me grab a couple more and give it a shot

I could see you having trouble with aftermarket mounts. Not OEM.

Guessing you aren't using a hoist? Hopefully you have a block of wood or something else under the motor. Jacking it up on the oil pan is not recommended.

Just loosen the mounts, they should be able to wiggle just like the motor. Unless you have a majority of stiffer mounts installed.

I might be using this thread as a reference soon since I am dropping in my motor with new mounts as well. :hmm:

It doesnt move worth a damn. Two jacks doesnt work its still too far to the right. Im done with this shit im getting a hoist. I cant believe i have to resort to a engine hoist for this though WTF.

Heres some pictures like i've said all mounts are loose to the point the nut bolts are finger loose. The motor will NOT move enough to get the bolt to line up. I can get it to move a little bit more left then in the pictures but thats it. Like I said there must be something im missing but trying to do whats suggested above has not worked.

My only guess is one or more of your mounts are seriously broken or possibly one or more are the wrong mount. have you tried sticking a screwdriver into that mount hole and prying?

This is a real easy task to accomplish. Jack it up a hair than take a pry bar and pry the mount towards the engine.

Man reminds me of putting mine in several times alone, tricky but it comes together with the right tools, and being creative.

I am not sure what you are getting at. It's always been a 1 person job for me, just like everything else on these cars.

This method works every time for me.
Loosen the other mounts a little bit. Set the height with your jack and then use a prybar to move the engine where you need it. Judging from the picture, it looks like you need to move it up a bit and use the prybar in the pocket between the motor mount and the chassis.

Pretty much a long-winded version of exactly what bryanwheat said in post #19.

If you have the spare trunk jack, I would try to wedge that in between the car & motor & throw the bolt in there. Hammer it in.

Looks to be aftermarket motor mounts. Did you put any lube in there? Like coolant or something?

Was this car in a previous accident?
