Hey, My name is Will. All my friends call me Fin. Glad I found this site because I have a 95 Eclipse GST that I know nothing about.

Driving home today my car started to make a ticking sound ( like a V8 with a bent fan blade ) when I let off the throttle it stopped and when I gave it gas it increased in sound and speed with the RPM's. So naturally I pulled over. The car stalled before I could get into the parking lot. As soon as I pulled in white smoke started to come out the hood. Popped the hood. and it was just pouring out the side with the belts. Made sure it wasn't going to start on fire and let it cool. Looked under the car and the whole undercarriage was covered in oil. There was no coolant, or oil left in the car.

I check my fluids everyday. So don't try to flame me for that. I am in the process of buying the car from my best friend. I know it had some problems, but nothing this bad. I baby it and never really go over 3000 RPM's. I like the car because I can go 400 miles on a tank of gas. I planned on buying a head and building it up and then getting some other things while I drive the car for work.

But now its in my driveway...

After searching the web I found out that I may have crank walk. As all forums state that it happens on 2g's. Mine has 141,### miles on it. I knew it was due for a rebuild.. But now I'm forced to learn at a quicker pace than I expected. This isn't my first rodeo. The first car I rebuild from the ground up was a 69' corvette. Granted I brought the engine to a great machinist. I did everything else myself. A Haynes manual, Chilton and a factory build manual were my best friends for weeks. So I am mechanically inclined. I just don't know a damn thing about this 4G63T that I need to work on, or the car for that matter LOL

So I ask you, oh great one's, full of knowledge and wisdom, be kind. I think I can find most of the info just by searching the forum as i'm not new to forums. But at some point I may ask a newbie question.

Thanks

Fin

Hard to guess exactly what happened, but it sounds like you are in for a full rebuild regardless.

I think it's time for a new best friend. With a friend like that, who needs enemies?

:D

You are on the right track. There is SO MUCH to learn about these quirky (but fast and fun) cars, and almost all of it is right here on this site. Just take your time and read everything you can; here's a few links to get you started:

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I currently am in the garage walking back and forth, checking the "Head Removal/Mini Engine Rebuild" by buck from the tech archives :) and slowly removing parts. Its a interesting experience having never taken a sideways crazy import engine apart. I'm used to big V8's with lots of engine bay space :0

But the going is good I already subscribed to a few threads. I keep looking and I think I'm going to swap my 2G for a 1G. already found a craigslist 6bolt rotating assembly that looks good to go so i'm gonna check that out and slowly start to gather parts and Knowledge for this swap.

Thanks for the links. If anyone has any advice that they want to share from past experience feel free to pm me

( by the way this whole taking the tire off and timing belt crap is ghey. Can you stuff a V8 in this thing? )

Stay frosty,

Fin
