Hey guys, Im fixing to start the paint project on the gsx. Im going to be picking up paint soon, like next week and was looking for some options. Im going to be sticking with black, but do you guys know of any specific paint codes of black that look good? Got any pics? What I mean is like "example" black off of a 2012 Acura or the black off of a 2007 Porsche or something like that. Local guy says he can mix whatever color I want if I give him a paint code.

Really, I just want a nice deep dark black. Maybe a touch or so of metallic but not much. I never really pay attention to these sorts of things so if you know of something sweet looking, post it up. Pics are awesome too.

There is really only 1 black. Black is black and all blacks are the same black. Also, black will always color match to black. This only true for real black with only black pigment.

When painted my cars i went to the autoshop and got some sample books then held them in the light, ive painted white, blue, and gray next one is my current tsi, i like black with some pearl or even a midnight black with some pearl really nice.

Mike, Mello is correct. Re read what he said. Straight black (no metallics, sparkles or rainbows) will match with black.

It's the absorption of all light. It is no longer black if there is added stuff or a "light" black.

I agree that straight black is black and I understand that black absorbs the full spectrum of visible light. That is great in a physics class but when you go to a paint shop and say I want black, there are many many to chose from.

I just recently got my car painted as well and looked at lot of colors and codes including about 10 different blacks and 20 dark grey variants.

Personally if I was going to get a black I would want a pearl. Just a little something in it.

I would do a pearl black with a gold flake that would look nice.

Paint manufacturers create fancy names for marketing their products but when it comes to black there is not difference between any brand when it comes to black. Everybody's black paint will match will match each others. Pearl isn't paint and doesn't go really go into the paint. Pearl is normally applied over the top of the paint (color coat).

After some thought, I just went with the stock black. I ended up going local to get the painting supplies, primer, basecoat, and clear. I purchased everything from a local keystone automotive. The paint is made by wanda. I was skeptical about this paint at first, but of course I googled it before I bought it, and it is fairly new to the market. What I could find pertaining to it was nothing but positive, so I bit the bullet and got it. I got a gallon kit of primer, basecoat, clear, lacquer thinner, reducer, and a flex additive for 497. I thought that was good. Anyway, got her all primed up today.

imo, the best black, is straight up black paint. no pearl, nothing special. When i park my car next to black cars, they look grey.
